Players of all skill levels must learn how to apply Materia to gear if they want to play at their best in Final Fantasy XIV. If you craft, gather, or raid, Materia can give you the edge to land critical hits like crazy and craft HQ items while using ordinary materials. You can use these joy-filled gems as soon as you start getting gear with Materia slots, and you can even use five of them in one piece of armor!
Now that we’ve covered how to add material FFXIV let’s get to the details.
Final Fantasy XIV: Materia To Gear
Final Fantasy XIV allows you to use Materia on gear by either melding it yourself or utilizing a Materia melding NPC. To unlock Materia Melding, you must first complete quests in Central Thanalan. Materia melding isn’t simply a question of which Materia can be merged; it is a process called Pentamelding, and it involves getting “free” Materia. Find out how below!
Understanding the Basics
Before you can begin melding, you must complete the quests below according to your needs.
The quest for NPC-assisted melding can be found in Central Thanalan (x:24, y:13.8). Once completed, you will be able to meld Materia to your gear in any city-state market for a fee.
Get LVL 19 in any crafting class and then complete the quest Forging the Spirit in Central Thanalan and Waking the Spirit in Central Thanalan (x:23.6, y:13.9). After completing both, you will gain the Materia melding action, which allows you to affix Materia to gear.
You need to know what Materia to use after you have your method. What type of Materia can be applied to gear depends on the item level (iLVL). When your gear’s iLVL is lower than the Materia’s Level, you cannot affix it. It helps keep the game balanced.
In addition to dungeons and the market board, you can trade tokens for Materia, run dungeons to obtain them, or even play the game normally. Spiritbond is gained by using gear at content that matches or exceeds your gear’s Level (including crafting recipes at your Level). You will receive a notification in-game when your gear has reached 100% and gained enough Spiritbond. A new action, Extract Materia, will appear once this has been maxed. By removing Materia here, you will not have to pay anything and reset your Spirtbond to 0, allowing you to buy more Materia.
One last thing to understand about Materia is Pentamelding, though not many players deal with it. By applying Advanced Materia Melding to a single piece of gear, pentamelding adds five Materia to it. The quest Melding Materia Muchly must be completed before attempting a Pentameld. You will find it at Central Thanalan (x:23.8, y:13.6). A crafter level 19 must have completed Waking the Spirit to do so.
After you’ve done so, Advanced Materia Melding will become available, allowing you to combine more than one item. If the words “Advanced Melding Forbidden” appear above, you won’t be able to merge beyond the available slots. As you add more Materia to a piece of gear, your chance of success decreases. By diving back in the lower levels of Materia, you can find Materia with a higher success rate. Alright, that’s all!
