  1. Most likely people who joined AQ3D before Closed Beta heard about the game from AQWorlds-related news (from AQWorlds Design Notes or Twitter from AQWorlds developers). I am curious as to how many people found out about AQ3D without having played any other AE games in the past.

The majority of AQ3D's playerbase play with mobile phones so I suppose that those who have not heard of AE before found it by looking for free to download games on app stores.

  3. Probably. There are tons of mobile games in general, but there aren't that many mobile MMORPGs, so the more narrow the category gets, the more that people find specific choices like AQ3D. But I don't think people necessarily go "looking for games," just hear it from propagated news (like from friends). Would be easier to just survey players online on where they heard about AQ3D, but that would be hard to do and the survey would probably be biased towards older players rather than new players.

The price tag of "free" does attract people and there are people who hunt for games in that price range regardless of genre. Yeah, it will be difficult to get realistic results with surveys because the most vocal players are already familiar with AE.

Did you keep it? At least you have that if you did.

  7. You're not missing much anyway, just the experience of Alpha and the entire Alpha Knight set which people don't really wear these days.

It's proof that you did something so I can see that.

  10. Badges are mainly to show off, but I don't see much meaning in them. There was supposed to be a Tech Demo badge (which was previewed during the first build of Character Page badges, I think as a Trolluk image), but that badge never stayed around (probably because it was hard for AE to track who participated in Tech Demo and who didn't, but I don't know for sure). It's already impossible to collect all badges anyway, so I wouldn't stress to much about missing some.

Well, would you look at that! The old version of character pages actually showed character stats! A necklace? It would be nice to get more gear slots like rings, amulets and trinkets. Those stats do make me miss the old stat system which by the way would still work if items were balanced properly.

I vaguely remember seeing a post about AQ3D in the AQW design notes in 2014. I think it required upgrade/membership (idk whether it was on any AE game or AQW only) to access the game, which I couldn't pay for at that time (my debit card was held onto for safekeeping and there weren't any redeemable game cards for AE games in my local 7-Eleven stores). I thought to myself, "Oh well," and forgotten about AQ3D.

A few years later, I looked at a friend's Steam profile and saw that they've played AdventureQuest 3D. I was like, "Oooh it's released to the public, huh." Then I installed the game; I believe I signed up around late December 2017.

  13. Yeah, early access required membership/spending money of any AE game. I think paying $5 for any game was enough to let you in, though I'm not sure since it's been a long time. And I believe Closed Beta (late 2016) was when early access codes were given out for players to share with friends. I would say that you haven't missed much except maybe interacting with the older players that you've never met.

I do remember that too, I did get a code to share with someone. I ended up not giving it out because I really didn't have anyone to give it to.

  15. Yeah, it was mostly pointless unless you had friends who didn't play AQ3D who had some interest of playing. There also weren't any promo rewards to go with those early access codes until the cape promo stuff happened (and later the Warbrand stuff), but I think the cape promo stuff was a big mess entirely. Most people who redeemed promo cape codes were already AQ3D players, and when codes ran out from a particular site, it kind of dissuaded new people from even joining AQ3D. I think Warbrand fixed the issue since a bunch of outlets were giving out the same promo item (the Warbrand items) rather than different promo items, and the supply was abundant.

Yeah, those capes for the most part went to those who were already playing AQ3D.

I applied for Alpha waaay back when they first had it and actually made an account to play it. I was so young that when I tried it, I was disappointed because I thought it was the full game. I left it and forgot the account, until it resurfaced back into relevancy and I've regretted my decision ever since.
