The new tengu set that Dago showed on his Twitter is colour custom but not fully. Only skin and the eyes for the helm are customizable though. Still, feels like they are slowly taking steps towards being fully colour custom:D.

  3. They have the capability to add color customization (through trim, base, and accessory), but I guess they just don't want to go through the hassle, because they don't have plans to continuously make color custom gear (in other words, they'll make a few or so every year and only have it be customizable to eye/hair/skin color, and it'll be for minor items like helms and capes). For armors and other models that take time to create, they want to reuse assets by offering different colors to optimize the amount of content and profit instead of making one armor that's fully customizable.

You can think of it this way: (1 fully-customizable armor for 1.5k DCs v.s. 5 armors [red, blue, yellow, green, purple] costing 10k gold, 600 DCs, 600 DCs, 600 DCs, and 600 DCs respectively). The 5 armors would be a more optimal choice, because it'll bring more content to the players and it'll increase profits (because of the cheaper prices and because the perception of choice means that players may buy multiple items). That's the psychology of marketing.

AE could go full color custom but they have decided not to and it's obvious if you look at how many recolors there are.

So make these "weirdly colored" items fully color custom? Just because you don't like the color of an item doesn't mean it should be color custom. AE isn't really fond of making color custom items so even getting one feels like a miracle.

  7. I will admit, a lot of the colors they use feel dull, lack vibrancy, or simply possess edginess. So many grays, browns, darkish teals, reds, blacks, and awkward color choices/schemes. I haven't seen anything really stand out since the Incarnadine weapons, and I'm hoping they open up an array of new colors that will really shine... not necessarily fill the game with a bunch of eye-candy colors, but present more options. It's especially difficult to create unique sets with particular colors you want; black and red still seem to be the easiest just because of the abundance of black and red items. The lack of color customization really limits you.

It would be nice that AE decidedd to focus on the less used colors and make items that look nice with those colors.

in business perspective, going with minor isnt really a popular option except the majority already being grasped by other competitors, but this game is purely under AE only, so it's not really wrong if AE just trying to release popular theme which in latest vote said "Dark Theme".

  10. But they're not really limited in theme choices, and it's not really much about popular themes; yes, the game overemphasizes the dark theme (Darkovia, Doomwood, Vane, Death, Shadowguard, Ashfall, Westmere, Underworld), but that's the direction they choose albeit a vapid direction. There's much more flexibility that's viable, and it'd be a lot better to present various themes instead of the heavily monotonous dark theme. For instance, AQWorlds seemed to do well in its early days of balancing themes (each Chaos Lord and their respective location felt unique and wasn't all about overemphasizing the color purple and the theme of chaos, the minor releases felt like an abundance of variety (usually filled with parody and old pop culture), and the game overall didn't feel heavily centralized over one theme). If they start presenting new themes in AQ3D, it would already be a bit too late since the pacing of the game is too focused on the 'dark theme' early on in the story. If, for instance, Arcangrove was a level 7 area, Frostvale was a level 10 area, Mysterious Islands was a level 13 area, and so on (with dark themes sparsely showing up), then that would be a nicer pacing, offering players at an early start with plenty of variety, but I don't think they're going to change the pacing since that'll mess up the plot. Personally, I'd rather not be inundated with so much 'dark' stuff at the beginning of the game and I believe that variety is the more popular way to go.

Thinks get dull if AE goes with one theme all the way through and AE has been forcing this dark theme pretty much from the beginning. It's not a popular theme, it's predetermined. From the business stand point, having a little bit more variety doesn't hurt.

Tengu Head seems to have color custom hair so there's that.

For me its Noy gonna happen, in terms of the game all items in game have its own uniqueness each

  15. I don't really see it that way. To extend uniqueness, they really need to expand their color palette (even if color customization isn't a viability), not just expand their item models (which they often reuse/retexture anyway, killing any sort of uniqueness). Too much dull and dark colors in general, and we still need more vivid, vibrant, light, bright, and brilliant colors. Uniqueness would be like having many options to customize, and it's hard to do that with a limited color palette. For instance, it's hard to mix-and-match Royal Talon items with other items, and mix and match Incardine weapons with other items. I want to build sets with varied items (as do many players), but it's hard to build something truly unique that isn't black and red, just black, gray, brown, or some of the duller colors. I don't want to wear a full Royal Talon Armor, for instance, because that's just a standard set, and anyone could wear the same thing because that's how the set was intended which makes it not unique.

There already are items with color custom capabilities, but they aren't exactly obvious because their descriptions don't mention them. Tengu Head is one example.
