Mouse/keyboard but if the game is done right I don't mind playing with a controller.

What do you hate most about something happening to your hardware?

    these are mine...

Some1 who just ate something oily and then touches my mouse, keyboard or controller...it pisses me off the most....

also i really dislike when there are fingerprints on my monitor and on any of my cd's

what do you hate the most? :rage:

Pretty sure it's in the repo, should be able to just go into the Ubuntu Software Center and search for Python, 2.6 is available too so if you need 2.7 make sure you select that one.

    Via the terminal you'd put:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install python
If all else fails go here:

    Ubuntu -- Package Download Selection -- python_2.7.2-7ubuntu2_all.deb

Click one of the links which will download a .deb file (.exe of Debian based distros) then run it.

May need to give it permission to execute, right click it then properties and one of the tabs should have a check box for "allow execute" or something like it...

Also don't remember if they fixed it yet or not but Ubuntu Software Center might refuse to install it... if that happens install gdebi, should be in the repo so just put gdebi into Ubuntu Software Center or via terminal:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install gdebi
once it's installed you should be able to right click the .deb file and in the drop down menu it should have an option "install with gdebi"... if not log out and back in then right click it again.

I hate it when an analog stick on a controller goes slightly off center causing you to automatically move in the direction it's off.

Linux has .zip and .rar, too. It also has .gzip
gzip is another type of compression, just like zip. In order to open it, you use 'gunzip file'. However, your file is a '.tgz', which is short for '.tar.gz', which means it is a tar file inside a gzip file. So to skip untaring it after you gunzip it, you can just do the following:

    'tar -zxvf Pyhon-2.7.2.tgz'

Also, tab is your friend, it will auto-complete filenames you are typing.

You also could probably right-click on the .tgz file from whatever file manager program and choose to extract it, this is just how to do it from the command line.

Aaddron's should work easier, as well. You can also browse packages with 'sudo synaptic', probably.

So, I've decided to try something new, I don't think that it has been done at GO as of yet. It's called...a Let's Play! How it works is simple: I will start a (turn-based) game, and you will have to put input in on how to play. I shall keep a dairy of events to happen, and add screenshots and other useful information. When people in the forum give ideas on what to do, I will try to follow them. If we die along the way, I will make sure to tell you who's fault it was so you can beat them.

    Info on the Game:
The game featured is known as Nethack. It is old. In it, a lovely little adventurer wearing a fedora (he looks like this from above: @) must travel to the bottom of a scary dungeon without being brutally murdered by tentacle demons, giant spiders, demons, and land mines. It is a very difficult game to win, but we will try our hardest!
There are a few main areas that you should know about for the beginning, I will describe the later ones if we survive that long.

    /-------------------------
The Dungeons of Doom: The main area we will be in for the beginning of the game. It goes down up to 29 levels.

The Gnomish Mines: A short branch off of the dungeon filled with gnomes and dwarves. There is a town inside it known as Minetown, filled with shops, a priest, and a nasty miltia that will kill you if you break their fountains (water is rare down there, I guess) At the bottom it is rumored that there is a stone blessed with good luck.

Sokoban: A 4-floor dungeon branch that is filled with puzzles. It goes UP instead of down. The top of the tower has either an Amulet of Reflection or a Bag of Holding.

The Quest: You must be level 14 to enter the portal to the quest. At the bottom is a role-specific powerful magic item. There is also a boss down there.
    \--------------------------
This is a list of the types of items seen in the dungeon. All of these items have different sub-types within them, like scrolls can be 'Scrolls of Teleportation' or 'Scrolls of Genocide'. You don't know the subtype until you identify a scroll using certain tricks or spells, however.

Monsters 'a-Z' - They try to kill you. The letter depicts what type of monster it is. 'D' is a dragon, for example.

Scrolls '?' - You can read these to do mysterious things, like kill all of one type of a monster, teleport, or chain an iron ball to your leg!

Wands '/' - You can zap these at things. They have effects like shoot beams of fire, making things sleepy, or making it light.

Potions '!' - Drunk for special effects like healing or confusion.

Spellbooks '+' - Read to learn how to cast spells.

Rings '=' and Amulets '"' - Worn for special effects. Some are quite nasty though!

and a bunch of types of Armour '[' and Weapons ')' and Tools '('.

We will be doing a Lawful Dwarven Valkyrie character, as chosen in chat! Next post in a bit with the starting stuff. And a screenshot.

After dubbing her pet dog 'Ogre', our Valkyrie begins to mindlessly slaughter and explore the entire floor. Just newts and a goblin or two up here..although I'm sure nastier stuff waits lower down. Nothing too interesting yet, besides a tripe ration (pet food!) and a couple gems.

EDIT: She goes down to the second floor, and again sees nothing too interesting, she picks up a scroll on the ground though. The third floor is a bit more interesting though. As she hears a cash register dinging, she quickly searches the hallways for a secret door, and finds...Annootok's General Shop! Great!

Any input on what to buy or check out? You've heard some adventurers have tried to teach their dogs to steal from shops, so that might work. You have no clue what any of the stuff is, so you also might want to try to find some way of identifying things easily.
