In order to provide a better overall gameplay experience, BioWare is working on something called "high-population server tech" for Star Wars: The Old Republic. A new posting on the game's official website claims that the new stuff "will allow us to significantly increase current server populations."



The company is putting out a call for testers, and all characters from East Coast servers have already been copied to a new public test server that is available starting today.

NCSoft's triple-A martial arts MMO Blade & Soul finally is approaching us as they confirm the plan to expand B&S into western markets. The highly successful game keeps NO.2 in the Korean MMO ranking list since its launch on late July, NCsoft plans to reach the same level of success and popularity in western market. NCsoft is already aggressively tailoring the title for Western players, working closely with Team Bloodlust to ensure the rich Asian martial arts theme stays intact.

 

ArenaNet is launching an all-out assault on subscription MMOs, according to a forum post by game designer Colin Johanson. "Guild Wars 2 will feature consistent free content updates and in-game events going forward. Our goal is to make it so you get more from GW2 for free than you get from a game you pay a subscription for," he told fans.

"We do appreciate that you'd like to buy lots of new content, but we'd prefer to give a lot of it to you for free, because that's what we think a responsible MMO company does," he said.

 

SOE boss John Smedley recently dropped by the PlanetSide 2 forums with an update of things to come.

Sony Online Entertainment CEO John Smedley paid a visit to the PlanetSide 2 forums this week to update the community on what’s in the works and what’s being considered as the shooter continues its march through beta. Smedley touched on several of the topics in the works such as changes to gunplay, certifications, resources, improvements to game performance and the work progress on the continents of Esamir and Amerish. Smed does note that due to the time it’s taking to work on the continents, PlanetSide 2 may launch with 2 with the third to follow post-launch. Time and testing will tell.

Smedley also explains that Matt Higby and crew will be discussing the possibility of adding base ownership benefits and the prospect of continent locking, which it’s important to note is just being discussed and not set in stone.
