The European Wargaming.net League Season Three relegation matches are over and we’d like to communicate the highlights of the event to you. According to the WGL rules, twelve teams are selected for the league qualifiers each season. Six of the teams are the top six teams from the previous season, while the other six are picked in two ways.

Three teams qualify automatically through the A-Series and Go4WoT. The two best teams from the last season of the A-Series and the best team from the last Go4WoT matches don’t need to do anything more to take part in the fourth season of the European Wargaming.net League.
This time the lucky, and most skilful, teams who qualified automatically are:

WUSA – the German rising power, who managed to take 2nd place during the last edition of the World Cyber Games, and qualified with the highest score in the 2nd season of the A-Series tournament.
FreeFall – qualified by achieving second place in the A-Series tournament. Not many of you will know that FreeFall is a sister team of the famous Finnish team, SPALE.
WASD Gaming – qualified by taking first place in the Go4WoT tournaments.

The three other teams have to fight! The best teams from the tournaments mentioned above have to play the teams who placed in positions 7-9 in the last EU WGL qualifier. The games were as follows:
    Season 3 Relegated Team
    New team trying to qualify
    Odem Mortis
    Kazna Spain
    SPALE
    eSuba_INTEL_wot
    Team WD
    Lucky Kuraki

The three teams who emerged victorious from these matches were Odem Mortis, eSuba_INTEL_wot and Lucky Kuraki. Congratulations to Odem Mortis for staying on board, as well as to eSuba and Lucky Kuraki who were in the EU WGL in earlier seasons and have made a great comeback!

The third season isn’t over just yet! We still have the teams who qualified for the offline finals who will play for the grand prize of 50,000 Euros and the 100,000 Euro total prize pool! The finals will be in southern Poland at the end of January 2014.

This I managed to dig out
    Possible gun – M1A2
penetration: 177/190+/38 (if using the APCR as std and the experimental round as gold)
damage: 115/110/185 (may have to be buffed slightly to 120+?)
ROF: 18.18rpm (as per current stats)
Hull and turret was about 76mm (similar to T25/2)
    Hull traverse: 40deg/s
    Turret traverse: 42deg/s
both will probably be nerfed a bit with a hp/t of about 14 making it more inline with the T25 than the T20.
    View range: +-380m
    Signal: +-745m

    Medals of Renown: Orlik’s Medal
Medals of Renown: Orlik?s Medal | History Spotlight | World of Tanks

Medals of Renown is a new series in which we take a look at the names of the medals in the game. Have you ever received one of these epic achievements and wanted to know more about the people they are named after? Here’s your chance!

This month we take a look at Orlik’s Medal, which is awarded for destroying three or more tanks or tank destroyers with a light tank.
The medal is named after Roman Edmund Orlik, a Polish tank commander who, in 1939, proved to be one of the world’s first tank heroes.

Before the war, he was an architecture student at university in Poland. When war broke out, he ended up as a Sergeant First Class (SFC) in the Polish army and commander of a TKS Tankette – these tiny vehicles formed the bulk of the Polish armoured vehicle force at the time of the invasion of Poland.
SFC Orlik’s TKS was armed with just a single 20mm gun. Over the course of a single week, he proceeded to single-handedly destroy 13 enemy tanks.

The first three were taken down on 14th September 1939 during the battle of Brochów. This battle ended with a complete Polish victory.

On 18th September 1939, he and two vehicles armed only with machine guns were sent to perform reconnaissance in the forests of Poland. After stumbling across enemy vehicles, Orlik ordered the two supporting vehicles to retreat while his own TKS covered their escape.

Orlik found a good spot to hide and laid an ambush. A convoy of enemy vehicles appeared, led by three Pz.Kpfw. 35 (t)s of the 1st Light Division. With his single TKS, Orlik managed to destroy all three enemy tanks, as well as several other vehicles. He also took two prisoners, and tried to rescue the crew from a burning tank. One of those badly wounded in the attack was the platoon commander, Victor IV Albrecht von Ratimor, the descendent of a German prince and heir to a dukedom.

Roman Orlik’s story didn’t end there. The following day, he and his TKS took part in the battle of Sieraków. An armoured unit of the Wehrmacht, which had just come from the huge Battle of the Bzura, attacked the village, seeing easy spoils. However, they were held at bay by a far smaller Polish force, which included Orlik’s TKS. Between them, the Polish forces destroyed more than 20 tanks, seven of which were taken out by Orlik himself. Again, these were mostly Pz. Kpfw. 35 (t)s.

Eventually, Orlik and the other Polish forces ran out of ammunition and had to retreat. By this point, Orlik’s TKS alone had destroyed 13 German tanks over the week of fighting.

Despite Orlik’s heroic actions, Poland was falling to the Germans. He took part in the battle of Warsaw a week or so later, but after that there was little more he could do. Nonetheless, he managed to survive the war. Afterwards, he resumed his career in architecture, and lived peacefully until his death in 1982.

Now get out there and earn your own Orlik’s Medal, commanders!
