according to local news here, Netherlands is sending its flood experts to Bosnia. They will arrive soon. The Netherlands do have a lot experience with flooding and Rotterdam is the second biggest port in the world with lots of chemical industry. Deaths can be prevented, if you know what products the plant produces, you can take measures against it.

There is a large collection going on among the Bosnians in the Netherlands. Over 45000 people are collecting food, clothing and medicines to be send to towns and villages near the flooded area. First trucks have already left.

If the water reached really high, like 2 meters or more, and it stays there for some days, then beware! Walls can get saturated with water. There is the danger of collapse. The Netherlands had it last big flooding in 1953. A lot of homes had to be demolished, sometimes even months after the flooding, because they weren't safe anymore.

Ground can also get saturated with water. So in some cases even houses on hills are not safe. When the water recedes there is nothing to keep the saturated soil in place and you may get a landslide.

This flooding will not be fun for a lot of people. Many will lose their home. Its quite sad. Been through a war and all, many no doubt rebuild their homes covered in bullet holes, only to have to rebuild it again because it collapsed due to the flooding. My heart goes out to you.
