I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars.

Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that" -- Martin Luther King, Jr

This is pretty much how I feel about the issue.
Some guy who hasn't been heard from or has not done anything in 10 years was killed.

Doesn't really seem like a reason to celebrate to me..:snobby:

Yes, I'm sure if we head over to Iran and start hugging Muslim extremists we can create world peace. I don't understand how you guys think that logical reasoning will work with people like this. We're talking about a man that murdered thousands of innocents because he feels that America is a bunch of fat lazy infidels. Some things have to be met with brute force in order to solve them.. the war on terror is one of them.

I dont think you understand. Its not saying we should run anywhere and start "hugging" people. Nor is it saying logical thinking will work on them or even you.

My first husband spent 18 months fighting in Iraq, his unit was bombed by a suicide bomber in their own cafeteria in Mosul during lunch. My nephew leaves on May 30th for a 24 month tour in Afghanistan. I know more than most keyboard warriors what the politics of this war are and what it means to our nation, the public, and why it is being fought.

It is a personal belief to not rejoice in death, even death of an enemy. Its not saying justice cant be done, and its not saying that death wasnt the answer. It is saying you will not celebrate the loss of life even in someone who is bad. Its about the hate and love inside yourself.

I dont think anyone can change the entire world or any single person can create world peace. However you can change yourself and that does change the world.

Well said, I fully agree Cat. It gives me a sick feeling to be cheering about someone's death, even if it is a terrible person who killed thousands. As the saying goes, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

He killed thousands of people. We killed him. That's an eye for an eye.

Cat said she wasn't rejoicing in his death BUT didn't say that she thought death wasn't the answer.

I'm confused on what you fully agree with her?

And for the record.. I don't agree with that statement by Ghandi. At least not in the way that everyone takes it to mean.

I misunderstood, I thought you were one of the people going around saying that Osama deserved a trial. Rejoicing in his death and saying he didn't deserve to die are too extremely different things. My apologies.

    Read the quote xD :

Also what Ghandi quote? I can't find it. Unless it's the 'eye for an eye' thing.

I was agreeing with the feeling that celebrating anyones death, (even if it is a horrible person) seems wrong. I think death was most likely the only course of action we had, but cheering "We killed Osama!" in the streets must make us look as bad as the terrorists to outsiders.
