PoE Is a pretty interesting concept to me. It mixes together a lot of the finer points of D2, which of course is the pretty hectic ARPG combat style, different qualities of items and monsters, sockets, etc. with the character development of traditional RPG's. D2 was, IMO, the pinnacle of ARPG's in the last 12 years, It was quite lacking in the character development area. There were few paths for each character. Well, few viable paths. Your stats had one path, always. Str for gear, dex for block if you had a shield, and rest in vit. Skills were a bit better, but it's nice to see an ARPG with much more fleshed out character development.

I'm also looking forward to the story and plotline of the game. The storywriting that I have seen on the webpage has been masterful. Whereas most games tend to put a lot of emphasis on the graphics, gameplay, and music, this game definitely devoted a good bit of effort towards putting details in to the writing. The monster and area articles just exude this feeling that whoever was writing them was not some underpaid writer, coming up with a good vs. evil plotline for the thousandth time, but someone who was legitimately interested in doing justice to what he was provided with.

Finally, I have only been a member of the website and a fan of PoE for about Three or four months, but I have tried to do what I can to participate in the community while I was there. I have talked on the forums, conversed on the streams, and participated in just about every event and giveaway imaginable.

And that is all pretty much why I would like to receive the PoE key you have available.

I'm hoping to play POE because all of the other Diablo Clones have just been a letdown. Above that though...It honestly seems better than D3 from what I've seen. I'm very very interested in playing the Witch, because I"m huge into casters in all games. I'm honestly more excited for POE beta than SWTOR, which I preordered within minutes of it coming out to preorder.

I guess, to keep it short:
I just want to have a good time, while helping influence an awesome game.

I'm an huge RPG fan and an huge PC Gamer. All I play is PC games from FPS and MMOs to Indie Platform games. I've been in many betas over the years for various new mmos and etc. I've always been involved in the gaming community, I myself am an graphic artist for banners/signatures. I have my own forums for hosting my galleries. I've always contributed on feedback and being an overall great player. The longest mmo I've been with is Runescape (subscripted member), over 7 years now and still going on strong.

I've been an big Hack n Slash dungeon raiding fan since I first played Diablo 1 in 1999. Ever since then I've been an huge fan of the Diablo series. I've played other great games with the same style, such as Titan Quest and Torchlight. PoE I've been following for an long time now. I've been waiting to get an chance to play and join the community.

My dedication to the PC gaming industry can be shown in my large collection of PC games. I own 87 alone in Steam, along with other great titles like Crysis 1-2, All Blizzard Games except WoW, LoL, Guild Wars, AoE 1-3, Minecraft and variety of mmos (Flyff, Luna, Aika, Atlantica, Vindictus, DragonNest, Ragnarok). Flyff alone I've spent atleast $300-500 in the 3 years I played.

I try to reach end game in all of the ones I play, in most I have finished the main story/campaign or reached end game level. In the last year or more, there's only been an few genres that have brought something new. League of Legends for one, Minecraft and the mass of Indie games that release. There has not been an Hack n Slash game that was amazing since D2. PoE looks like it can rival D3 and it's something I'm definitely going to play and invest time into. I plan to purchase D3, Torchlight 2 and any requirements for PoE.

Hack and slash games just appeal to me! Especially with the huge mobs that you can garner up and use spells to exterminate them. The more awesome part of the game is definitely the Dark/Horror style and theme of the game which really just fits the overall setting of the game. The skill tree also seems so immense at first sight, to others it may be revolting, but to mean i see it as a varied game-play that not many other games offer.

One thing for sure is that it's an indie company, so for them to create such an awesome game without any financial support, It'd be sin not to play the games they put so much effort and time into.

I've been interested in Path of Exile for some months now. I am a Diablo 2 fan and hack and slashes in general. I've played Torchlight, Titan Quest and some obscure roguelikes that follow this style.

I am looking forward to the vast skill tree, the ability to customize our character builds will be amazing! The linked slots is a novel mechanic I really want to see in action. Also Hardcore mode, because there's nothing like fear of death to make you appreciate a close victory!

Why should I be in? Well, I have taken part in a lot of betas, and I always provide feedback. It makes me feel I am contributing to the game, and for POE in particular, it's an indie company so they'll need all the help they can get. Pretend this is me, helping people and rescuing kitties from trees. :fireman:
And of course, I really want to play this game. Pretend this is a keytar (see what I did there?), and that's me playing it. Hard. :guitarist:

I need to walk the path with you Exile... its all good to play but we have work to do...bugs to categorise and things to prioritise!

This needs to stay at the top of RPG games, looks promising!

What make game appealing? It is a dark fantasy style crpg, you dont find anywhere unless you play diablo 1. I have played Diablo 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Baldurs gate 2 + Throne of Baal, Elder Scroll 3: Morrowind and 4:Oblivion, My first one was Eye of the Beholder on Amiga. My favorite characters was always magic users or wizards/warriors and hey there is a Witch and Templar in path of exile! What i am
looking forward in this game is kiling more monsters, looting items. I have watched few gameplays avaiable in the youtube channels, i picked interest in the path of exile by watching on youtube TotalBiscuit "WTF
is Path of Exile"? I heard the name path of exile on few portals about mmorpgs but unless i watched the gameplay i didnt pick interest on it. Maybe good that i didnt picked the interest in PoE earlier casue that would made me crazy waiting for test it. I am no experienced cloes beta player(beta tested Forsaken world in Closed beta 3, found some bugs of course). But i played few open beta(mythos, rusty hearts(playing on my
    pad))

    Makes appealing:
    -Dark world(i like dark worlds)
-leagues, for example hardcore(perfect for the players who is interestd in those)
-in the future free to play(free to try i play)
-random levels and items(less boring by random generating level an item)

    Looking forward:
-cRPG style playing(i am a fan of it)
-looting more powerful items(lets face it - who dont like more powerful items)
-using magic skills(fireball sounds marvellous - burn monster burn)
    -enjoying play

How long have you been a fan of Path of Exile?
-Not long but i love cRPGs and since i watched "wtf is path of exile"

Why do you think you should be in the closed beta?

-if i am playing beta then im beta-testing the game - not so playing but testing bugs, features, skills

(balance in pvp), giving opinions on them and so on. I would help the game to move on. And at last i would

feel like im actively partaking(did i spelled this good) in developing the game.

    Hello Fellow Gamers!!!!

Well whats to say, since I was introduced to this game I have been in love with the concept. I never played D2, and I remember D1 Vaguely, but the big thing about this game for me is the community. People from all over the world in a very non competitive atmosphere (unlike WoW).

Played WoW off an on for 4 1/2 years now, but have been in the middle east for the past 3 years. For the last 2 1/2 year I was working 12 hours a day 7 days a week so I had no time for gaming.

Got married and now have a 4 month old baby. The wife finally told me take a break go back to school. So I'm studying game development (or will be as soon as I find the right online school to choose from, which isn't easy trust me....any suggestions???) I Figured Path of Exile would be a great place for me to start, and beta testing would be a superb chance for me to see whats going on before and after.

Also, I have tons of time on my hands to be a successful Tester, so I'm hoping this reply will help my chances cause the Beta Timer isn't for sure.

I want to play POE cause I'm sick of all the everyday MMOs and large corporate conglomerations taking over the gaming scene
I'm looking forward/find POE appealing for the darkness and the overall appearance of realistic dark ages feel for the game
I've been a fan for about a week now (since I found out about it) maybe a little bit longer.
I think I should be in closed beta cause I want this company to succeed, I want the game to give D3 a run for its money, and I want to be apart of it all before and after the game is released. I also feel i shoudl be in the Beta cause i have the time to put into it. The Middle East is a very boring place, gaming is my only escape.

Best of luck to you all and hope to see all of you in the game!!!

    Evening everyone!

I would love the opportunity to be able to test this game. Judging from the big amounts of requests for keys about this game there seems to be a big hype going on atm and i am really curious why this is happening since the game is in closed beta.

From any videos and streams i have seen this free game seems really interesting, GFX seems they are nice but can't really judge it from streaming and videos. What i am most looking forward to see is the talent system which seems really complicated and cool.

Learned about this game in August and waiting/lurking/doing everything i can to get into beta but i always seem to be unlucky or too late :( Looking forward to playing a witch as i always loved the caster classes, can't wait to pew pew with my Witch!!

Don't have any strong reason to be in the beta, i can say what everyone else says but i doubt it will make any big difference. I am 29 Years old so i have played my fair share of games, i would love to play/test this game as well since there hasn't been really a competitor for Diablo since Diablo II was released and since i like to test games to their extreme i will be sure to forward any bugs/questions/advice to the appropriate forums at GGG.

    Thank you for reading!

    Hi there people,

    About me?
I'm a music student from Germany who is interested in doing game scores.
I've been playing video games since I was 6 (Maniac Mansion anyone?) and I just love a good Action RGP like the Titan Quest, Diablo series... you'll name it!
Spent a fair amount of my time playing hundreds of games, mostly on PC. My first lan party must have been around 98' where we played Jedi Knight 1, (hell yeah :p) and the first Beta versions of CS,
so you could say I have a history in gaming.

I liked what Blizzard accomplished with Diablo II and from everything I have read about Path of Exile, Grinding Gear Games seem to really care about creating a fresh and valid version of that gaming experience, not afraid to implement, try out and even scrap complex game mechanics and balancing ideas just to make sure it's good.
I'd very much like to be part of that process and if my feedback can help in anyway it's a win win for everyone. What I saw in previews is very promising, I'm on fire ;- )
Wish I heard about this game earlier - I registered about 2 weeks ago but like most people wasn't lucky yet.
What I'm most curious about? The Skill, Item and gem system. Customizing and upgrading your char is the backbone of any such game that keeps you going. Of course atmosphere and art design is a big one too, and I must say I like what I saw of PoE better than what the new Diablo Beta is turning out to be (wasn't lucky enough to play that one either!).

That's all I can think of for now.
    Good luck everyone!

    Dear Masters of the Key,

I am a not so humble gamer seeking to gain access to the key you hold for Path of Exile. Right now to me there is a lull of entertaining games. This will change in the next 3-6 months (roughly) or so as major players like Guild Wars 2 and Diablo 3 enter the battlefield. Now the Diablo series I have been a big fan of since being in the CBT for OG Diablo. Diablo 2 I enjoyed quite a bit even if it did lose some of that uber dark gothicky (Yes, it's a word. Just don't google it. >_>!) feel of the original. When D2 finally lost it's new car smell for me after many years of play I looked for other games to fill it's place.

Games like Titan Quest, Nox, Guild Wars, Fate, Dungeon Seige, Torchlight, Divine Divinity, Sacred, Helbreath, and Prince of Qin for example got some aspects right, but didn't quite get the complete package to the masses. Most also lacked a solid multiplayer component even if they did have superb storylines and single-player gameplay. Path of Exile on the other hand really is shaping up to be the spiritual successor of the original Diablo. This game is honestly relatively new to me. Somehow PoE slipped under my radar and it wasn't until 2-3 months ago that I heard about it on the GameFAQS Diablo 3 forums so I went to check it out. After a little reading I immediately signed up for beta and have waited for the random timer to pick me as well as entering a few contests for a key. None of these have panned out for me thus far.

The reason I like this game is as I stated it brings about the feel of the original Diablo. The setting is dark, menacing, and has a wonderful atmosphere of despair and hopelessness. Then you move into the aspect of a persistent world for mass interaction and a skill system that has moved past a simple skill tree into a skill forest. There is so much attention to detail there that builds while eventually cookie cutter will have a lot of experimentation that no previous diablo clone has really allowed. You also have a dev team that is very interested in what their potential consumers have to say and are approaching the Free-2-Play market with a nice goal of "ethical transactions". It's a welcome change to see a F2P title not entering the "Buy 2 Win" category right off the bat.

For a reason of why I deserve to be in the beta for Path of Exile it is because I don't plan to "play" the game during beta. I have been beta testing online games since the days of Neverwinter Nights and Red Dragon Inn on AOL in the mid-90's (Back when internet usage was based on a per minute usage...). Then I was lucky enough to get a chance to test Ultima Online in it's Phase One CBT. Since then I have tested hundred's of game for fun and profit. In the console market I even worked for a few companies (Acclaim, Z-Axis Ltd, TECMO) years ago as a beta tester and consultant. I'm 38 years old and have loved video games with a passion since the Atari 2600 was a "new fangled doohicky". When it comes to a beta test I want to push a games limits, explore the environment, and work toward having a game that when it goes Gold I can feel proud of having helped get it to that point. Then I can sit back and play the game for sheer enjoyment.

Thanks for your consideration and this contest,

    Hi.

I want to play PoE, because I like games like diablo, torchligh and mythos. I think the H'n'S are just awesome. 5 days ago I parcipicated in some Art Competition on Official Forums. I spent 7-8 hours to make 9 stupid signatures, which (acording to mny people) are great. I was like "Oh, hey, I'm gonna win that Beta Key because of my 7h hard work!" But no - the competition was probably set up. I'm very disappointed till today. I think I'll be lucky in your contest, GameOgre. I'm trying to win a key everyday! I'm trying to win a key on your Facebook too, but the time does not suit me. It's not your fault of course. Anyway... I'm from Poland and I'm trying to do my best with my English. Sorry for mistakes (if there are some) and thank you for giving us a chance to win a key. I hope I'll be lucky this time.

    Regards, Wilu666

    Hello,
There are many, many reasons why I want to play Path of Exile. Well, i played Diablo for a very long time and Path Of Exile is like diablo in many ways. First - dark wolrd like, well, Diablo I, because Diablo 2 was very colorfull. Diablo I have very good climate (butcher ftw). Second, of course what all we love - hack & slash, I enjoy hacking through monsters to reach my goal. Path of Exile have REALLY, REALLY good shadows and the less HP your character have, the less of light u see around it - its very good idea. Im looking for a key for very long time @PoE forums - still no luck. Sometimes I just watching beta invite timer for hours :( I really, really need it :) The characters and monsters designs are very good - armour is dirty for example. I think it will be very good game and i really need to try it out :)

It is resembling me one of my fav games - Demons Souls on PS3 - those dark passages and scary monsters :) I think PoE will be very popular game because of it climate and free2play advantage.

Well, there is one more reason. Im so desperate about it because i have been diagnosed with very bad lung tumour and when diablo3 will be released, well, there might be a chance that I wont be around anymore...

Sorry for my english, i learned it on my own :)

    Here ye, here ye

When I first heard of Path of Exile I was interested because I've enjoyed Diablo type games in the past. I thought it would be "a nice try" for someone to step up and attempt to compete with Blizzard. Then I saw a video on youtube and I just laughed to myself. I was stunned by the detail and atmosphere of it all. The textures, the shadows, the combat animations and the I don't care what other games are doing I'm going to do it the way we think works best for the players. I love it when developers are creative and try new things, especially to the level Grinding Gear Games have. Being a math and computer teacher along with developing iOS apps, I can appreciate the dedication it takes to make such a deep and complex, yet simple to understand, game.

There's also something to be said about making it a free and online only game. Making it free shows that you believe in your product and aren't afraid to take a risk in something that you put your heart into. Spending that much time on a product and taking the time to inform the community on what you are doing and your thoughts behind it shows your level of commitment. A lot of companies would just put out a semi-serious effort and hope for some kind of income to support the next possible title, but you guys have more faith in yourselves than that. A great game is rare to come by but you are putting it all out there by offering it up to anyone who wants it. And the great thing is that this should open up a door for all of those that are on the border of wanting to play this type of game but just don't want to spend the money. Elaborate games like this actually help kids with decision making skills and how to approach certain situations. It's a good learning experience.

I'm most looking forward to playing this game with my brother and my nephew, who is overseas. He was fortunate enough to get the beta, now he just needs someone to help him with the zambies. I'm also eager to collect a bunch of items and share them with my brother and nephew. It's such an awesome idea and it needed to be done, so thanks for doing it and making it possible.

I have only become a fan of Path of Exile for a few weeks now. For some reason I never knew it existed but I'm glad I'm always searching for alternatives to games. In this case it was D3. Even though I haven't been a fan for long doesn't change the fact that I'm not as interested as someone who's been around for a while. I've read threads from the past and I enjoy reading what you guys are thinking about and how you plan on approaching issues that come up. So thanks for the updates on the patches.

I think I should be in the closed beta because I know the importance of feedback on developing programs. Like I stated before, I enjoy making iOS apps and need, just like you, people to give me feedback. I've been in betas for other games and I actually enjoy informing developers on how their product is good and what might need to be worked on. And now that my nephew has the beta you can be guaranteed that I will be playing and giving feedback and I will also encourage him to do the same.

I realize that the length of my post does not make me more likely to get a beta key. I just wanted to answer your questions because, like I stated before, I know how important it is to you. Thanks and happy coding.

Why look what we have here...

Path of Exile? Beta access? Sign me up.

This game looks so incredible for a free to play, online only game. It has the characteristics that make this style of game entertaining and fun to play, but also incorporates features that have never been done before.

When I first saw the passive skill tree, I didn't really know what to think. After watching many videos of the game, I can't help but think of what I want my character to play like. The possibilities seem endless and I can't wait to try them out.

I've enjoyed this genre of game in the past, mostly playing the Diablo franchise, and when a friend showed me this game. I was instantly intrigued and thought, "I want to play this game. How can I get into the beta?".

I want to be in the beta so I can be a part of something great. Never has a game got me so excited to play, as Path of Exile has. The developers at Grinding Gear Games are really interactive with their fans, which makes me like them even more than I already do. Being able to interact with the developers and give my suggestions/opinions on the game, make me feel like I am part of a gaming community, that together, can make magic happen.

I want to be able to share this game with my friends, so they can experience it also, and not have to resort to watching videos. Being able to play the game will allow us to give not one, not two, but three or more times the amount of feedback to the developers on the Path of Exile website.

I appreciate what GameOgre has done to provide us with these opportunities and hope they continue to do so for future games. Thank you!

Alright, sorry for the delay on choosing a winner, there were quite a few excellent entries and I had to bring in some outside sources to toss in a few votes to help me chose a winner. We have finally all agreed upon a winner and..

    Drumroll....

Congratulations Chakani! Chakani has 48 hours to respond to the PM I sent him on the Gameogre.com forums to claim his key. If he does not a new winner will randomly be selected. Congratulations again!
