    I haven't really played it recently.

    I do like Final Fantasy 8 better though, but 7 is also pretty good (as is like, every other FF game before those).

    I think FF8 is better, but I haven't played 7 yet, only watched a bit of it being played, and I've seen Advent Children, but that's it, so I don't know. Did you see the FF7 opening re-made as a PS3 tech demo on youtube? it's here: YouTube - Final Fantasy VII PS3 techdemo

    I think they will make a remake eventually, because they're remaking all their older games aren't they?

    Well, there's the Final Fantasy 7 remake now, as of 2020. Definitely worth the play though; you'll find plenty of stuff in the remake that weren't in the original game.
