I wanted to bring up this discussion to see what my fellow Ogre's input was on the future of AQ3D and Artix Entertainment. We all enjoy and continue to support AE, AQ3D and subsequent games, however we have not always been given what we are promised from this company. As a founder of Herosmash and Oversoul, I felt very cheated when they stopped updating these games, with seemingly no response to the reason why (I mean of course it was because of lack of profit, but still they didn't acknowledge the stoping of development which left many players to play for many months to years afterwards before realizing... no compensation either for becoming a founder to a game that didn't even make it out of beta). I lost trust in the company when it came to supporting new games they made because they could close before they even go live. AQWorlds went the wrong direction as well IMHO, and lost a large amount of players from years ago. I trusted in AQ3D, but if this game fails/closes unexpectantly then it would be my last straw for this company. Scares a supporter like me sometimes with these huge delays, slow content development, and the obvious lack of staff they like to complain about.

What are your thoughts and opinions on the future of AQ3D and Artix Entertainment?
    Will AQ3D become another Herosmash/Oversoul?
Do you think another Kickstarter will boost development and player-base?
Are they moving in the right direction in terms of the development of their games and AQ3D?
Do you think they will ever give up AQ3D? Or will this game, regardless of the company's future, will be their priority?

  2. I would say AdventureQuest 3D is the company's only hope to see if the entire company survives. AdventureQuest Worlds has been dominant for a long while, but it's been declining over the years, so the company needs to bring out something new, and AdventureQuest 3D seems to be their chance to redeem themselves. Right now, I would say their game management for AdventureQuest 3D isn't perfect as it seems that a lot of things are rushed, delayed, etc., and hopefully they improve on fixing that. If they want to be successful with this new game, they ought to show that their game is worthy and put in the quality, but it seems like the team's focused on quantity by putting out so many releases. The people who supported the game during the Kickstarter would probably still support the game in one way or another, but the company's said that there won't be another Kickstarter, so it's not obvious how the game will function in the future. Hopefully it won't turn out to be like other AE games that have been a failure.

I don't think AdventureQuest 3D will be like HeroSmash or Oversoul. The main issues with those games is lack of updates and no advertisements. If there aren't any updates, then how would a company expect players to play those games? Now AdventureQuest 3D hasn't really had any advertisements, but it's had support from MMO review sites, social media, and other media. In addition, it's the company's first 3D MMORPG, but not only that. It's an AdventureQuest franchise, so that ought to catch the attention of fans of AdventureQuest and AdventureQuest Worlds.

I think another Kickstarter would help boost development, but unfortunately, there won't be another Kickstarter. Besides, they'd probably have to create even more content for supporters which will take away the focus of building the game.

As for development, I've seen some decline. In Tech Demo, Alpha, and Pre-Beta, players didn't expect releases or anything, because they felt assured that whenever the team did release something, it was a surprise. Now, it seems spoiled, misinformed (wrong dates), delayed, or rushed. However, I have seen improvements like the new party system, dungeons, etc., but there are still features missing that were expected a long time ago.

I don't think the company will give up, knowing that they've put a lot of effort into the game already. It's been in development for just a little over 2 years now (maybe even longer since they did start off with a failed 3D version of AQ3D in 2012). Now if players decided to leave for whatever reason, then they might give up, but it doesn't seem that way.

solid points, here's what I think:

"As a founder of Herosmash and Oversoul, I felt very cheated when they stopped updating these games, with seemingly no response to the reason why"
-this was a bad move for them, they should've posted something on the game's page that they are stopping development and compensation for founders at least in the form of in game items for their running games.

Will AQ3D become another Herosmash/Oversoul? - not in the foreseeable future tbh. game is solid, they got the multiplatform thing going on which is great, they are still in the testing phase since this is uncharted territory for them.

Do you think another Kickstarter will boost development and player-base? - yes, another kickstarter would be good for the game's health, but change the rewards for the tiers to entice backers to pledge again.

Are they moving in the right direction in terms of the development of their games and AQ3D? - while some of their updates IMO feels wrong, generally it is healthy for the game and positive.

Do you think they will ever give up AQ3D? Or will this game, regardless of the company's future, will be their priority? - yes, I think they would like to keep this game afloat for a long time.

also, about the lack of staff, they could hire peeps tbh lots of great artists and coders out there.. :)

Well i see some good potentials about the game but they really need to add more devs so they can do things much faster and to keep player interested and that will boost the player base of the game and also adding more features will be good too and will help alot

More devs is a good long term solution.. auestion is, can they be kept employed for a long time?

AE is going to be doing well just as AQ3D is going to, if they keep their attention on it and don't drop it like they did with Herosmash and Oversoul. AQ3D is going to decide how AE's future is going to go and i hope it's going to be a good one.

  7. More developers isn't needed, but rather, developers, and staff members, who can work effectively. In fact, I would say that the AQ3D team should hire skilled non-volunteer workers, workers who are working under contract. There has been a ton of problems with hiring volunteers over the years since some volunteers don't produce as much quality as contracted workers. For instance, volunteer moderators who work for AQ3D occasionally overlook what players say in chat by missing important context, like with yesterday's fiasco that was storming social media. Even a few volunteer testers aren't as active as other volunteer testers, because they have things to do in life, while contracted workers just work for the company. Now I'm not saying volunteer staff members should be fired, but what I am saying is that hiring contracted workers would yield better results.

Now aside from volunteers, some of the developers aren't consistent like the person who writes the stories for the game, which occasionally have typos and other mistakes. It could be that the writer doesn't have time to proofread everything because releases are being pushed way too early, or something else.

Now a former tester for AQ3D, Fan, did type out a Google Docs about the effectiveness of the company, and there are some things I can agree on such as switching to a better software that can manage work better.

I can agree with that. At least push the game out to Live release, before abandoning the game. HeroSmash is still stuck in Beta, and I don't think OverSoul is live yet. If it is, then it's lived a short time being released Live. The best thing to do is to persevere, not quit.

OverSoul would've made a great mobile game. Mobile card-PvP app. Simplistic enough to play all on the phone.
HeroSmash had endless possibilities. Completely customizable character and skills.

    All cancelled.
They still update battle gems and that dragon egg game tho. >_>

Which is sad tbh... they didnt have the foresight to see oversoul as a mobile app... as for herosmash, the graphics didnt fly for me, but the concept did.... too bad both got canned

Yeah i really liked Oversouls theme... It did have potential and i loved the character evolution tree that it had!!

As for what everyone said above i agree.. AQ3D is the only game that can keep the company from crumbling since AQWs has lost a lot of ppl in the past few years, so their main focus is/should be AQ3D.
It has a lot of potential and though the releases are delayed or rushed as Snowy said, i trust they will keep getting better and so do other players imo.
I don't think it will end up like HeroSmash or Oversoul cause its their best game so far imo, has their full attention, has a playerbase, its 3D and multiplatform.
Another Kickstarter would definitely help but i dont see that coming soon cause they have a lot on their hands right now (i mean they barely keep up with the updates right now, how will they make new content for the new KS)
Finally, as for the direction of the game i find it to be very good for now.. In all of their previous games paying always made you better in some way, here you only get cosmetics or get stuff faster (excluding the guardian). However since there is no pvp yet and no variety of builds ingame (items and stats aint great yet..) things can go wrong in the future and not just because of this.

  11. I would think the same about HeroSmash. HeroSmash's user interface looks mobile-friendly, and you pretty much control your character by clicking. It's unfortunate that the game was abandoned.

It would be interesting to see if the AQ3D team borrows ideas from their abandoned games to create a better game, like skill trees from OverSoul, face customization from HeroSmash (sort of already implemented, but wouldn't hurt to see more options), and custom skills from HeroSmash. Custom skills would probably make the game unbalanced, but skill trees would definitely be interesting to see.

I would also like to see a skill tree similar from OverSoul because i want to have more choices when it comes to customizing classes i use so i can change how i use them every once in a while.

this would also be helpful especially when pvp comes along... so we dont get ppl with the same skills as everyone else
