Scientists said that players of computer games are more sociable than other (ordinary :D) people. They said that gamers have more friends than people who do not play games.

What do you think, is that true ?

    Be objective please :D

ye they have more virtual friends ... but not real life friends.
You need to find a balance between gaming and real life ..

Yes but its easier to gamers to make friendships just because they make them everyday...i agree when you say there are nerds who just play games and sit at home but games can be very good to make friendships...i met 3 friends via games who live near to me and we are best friends now :D

Some might be, but truth to be told, I don't believe that's the case. At least not if we're talking about people that plays games all the time. Some prefers to stay at home and play games instead of going out and for those people, obviously this wouldn't be true. If we talk about gaining more friends though, this might be true. It's possible that you become friends with someone you know, but normally don't talk to because you start to play together in a game. So, as I said, it's true in some cases but not in all.

    Here's my story:
Soo my brother told me to try out League of Legends, well didnt like it that much, but played it a bit.
And one day my friend#1 asked me do i play LoL?
I said yes, and we wanted to play it together as soon as i come back from school.
And some guy invited me, i thought it's him but after few minutes my friend#1 sent me a message about why didnt i wait for him.
I was sooo confused, and then we introduced to eachother.
    Guess who it was?
    My a-long-time-ago friend xD
We are bffs now (Again! :) )

I think games have made me less social to be honest, spend more time playing them than chatting with people and even in online games with other people the toxicity can be so bad that I'd rather not chat anyways.

I noticed the toxicity too, that's why i usually mute someone, or ignore if possible.
I usually play mmo's with my friends, so it made me just more social :3
And i've met many friends over the world in games

Actually I am assuming it is true. If it is a statistical research based on how many real life friends they have it may be perfectly true. And I mean real life friends, not virtual friends.

You see gamers tend to be young people. They are either in their teens and have lots of friends in school, or they are people in their twenties and thirties and know people from college or from their jobs. Now older people may be less sociable because they have a smaller social network, they either lost friends due to moving away for job opportunities, lost friends due to forming of new relationships, or disunion of relationships (i.e. divorce), or if they're really old, have friends who are deceased.

So it isn't so much that gamers are more sociable, it is because gamers are younger that makes them more sociable.

But ask yourself this. Is that generation more sociable than the older generation that doesn't play computer games, when they were the age of the gamers? Now there's a question that's kind of impossible to answer. You can't really make fair comparisons because the older generation didn't have computer games back in their day when they were young. ;)

It all comes down to being online in my opinion, games are one of the few activities that can be truly connected. How many other activities allow you to be connected with thousands of other people at a click of a button. Then take it a step further with how many of them encourage, reward and promote you to work and interact with these other people.

Online games make it easy so naturally gamers are more likely to know more people especially with the anonymity factor... which makes connecting to others even easier as everyone is just a username.

I don't think it has anything to do with being a gamer, I think games are just naturally easier to socialize in so naturally gamers would seem more social. Take the average gamer and throw him/her into the world I doubt they would do any better than anyone else. Social people would socialize, non-social people wouldn't. Take a social bug, throw them into an MMO and say make friends... I think they could.

tl:dr - Social people be social, non-social people not be social. Games are a means but not the source in my opinion.

well that can be true as a means

but the same can then also be said for alcoholic beverages, unless your religion doesn't allow it that is

Just looking at it from an effects perspective when used in moderation it can generally loosen people up and make them more comfortable, this in theory would make them more willing to communicate with others as the fear factor is dulled. I think it's the same principles as anonymity online, it helps dull/remove the fear factor which makes them more willing to communicate.

  15. I have to disagree partially on the subject, mostly because it depends on the game that the player is playing. Social games like Facebook games would probably be the most socialable, followed by MMORPGs, then co-op games, but single player games do not offer any social influence. Also, some games may result in negative social influence like shooter games and very competitive games. I will agree that people are usually more interactive in a video game than in real-life, but real-life offers better social development in my opinion, especially when it comes to sports, clubs, and communities.

I think sociable in terms of 'game related content'; yet out of that in real life, I believe they are stuck in their shells.

I think it's the contrary, playing too much games would make someone less sociable in real life. On the other hand playing a lot of games would make you more knowledgeable about them and you'll have stuff to talk about when you're around other gamers.

  20. Over the months, I think video games have had a huge outreach to sociable people, especially since most of the world has experienced lockdowns, although video games aren't exactly perfect at capturing every aspect of social life. Social games pretty much dominated half of 2020 and most of 2021 with games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Among Us, or simply even chatting and the Battle Royale genre fell just behind when it comes to trending games.

I find it hard to believe that a game like Animal Crossing became the #2 best-selling Switch game in about a year and is on pace to surpass Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
