Imagine that you're playing the hot new zombie MMO, and you decide to splurge a few bucks on that shiny weapon you've been eying. You get your grubby mitts on it and go to town on a few living undead, only to find yourself over your head and quickly killed. When you wake up, your gun -- and the rest of your stuff -- is gone. Forever.

And the devs are totally OK with that.

This is about to become reality for players of the upcoming The War Z, as even cash shop-purchased items are not safe from being lost due to death. In a recent interview with Gaming Blend, Hammerpoint Marketing Director Alex Josef was unapologetic about that point: "You'll lose what you have in your backpack when you die in both in normal and hardcore modes. And yes, if you bought something using real money, you'll lose that item as well. This is a price you'll have to pay."

According to Josef, this level of item loss was a deliberate decision by the team to cause player to treat the game more seriously. "We've discussed that a lot," he said, "and at the end decided that this will provide a pretty good incentive for players to either be extra cautious while playing or just not spend too much money in the game and instead try to procure all items by finding them in the game world."

1. There will be 2 initial classes, Slayer and Striker. With the level cap for Closed Beta 1 at level 30, the Slayer will advance into Bloody Storm (physical) or Origin Seeker (magic) at level 20. The Striker will advance into Blaster (physical) or Elemental Fist (magic).


2. There will be 12 stages for Closed Beta 1, with the combo system working as well. Think of it as Dungeon & Fighter meets League of Legends.

3. Here comes the "stealing" part. Characters will be able to "steal" and use boss skills during fights with them. According to the report, these skills will remain with players as a way for them to figure out the best skill combinations for them.

4. Why is the game being touted as a MOBA or AOS (Aeon of Strife)? Well, each map is actually an arena, and thus they are marketing as it is. There is also a Dota-style 5 Vs 5 PvP mode, with 3 lanes, neutral mobs etc which players will find familiar.

5. From the questing point of view, things will get more strategic from stage 7 onwards, with multiple objectives to complete. Parties may split up to fulfill certain quests at the same time, but each decision will also trigger different events.

6. At stage 12, players will be able to occupy enemy (AI) bases and proceed. Sounds pretty much like a progressive element added to League of Legends' Dominion mode.

 

Monster Hunter may be the next Capcom property to get the Hollywood treatment, and Resident Evil Retribution producer Paul W.S. Anderson may be involved.

In an interview about Retribution, which hits Japanese theaters on September 14, Cinema asked Anderson what game he would like to next convert to film form. Responded Anderson:

"Recently, I've been loving Monster Hunter! A film conversion is currently in planning."

It's unclear if Anderson is saying that he's planning the conversion, or if Capcom has partnered with someone for a conversion. It's also possible that Anderson is saying that he's thinking up ideas for a movie conversion, but hasn't received an actual green light for production. So stay tuned.

The third Anniversary comes to Fallen Earth, and the game prepares the gift that players want most, patch 2.5 adds three powerful new weapons for players to use across the wastelands as well as three new bosses that carry required components for those weapons. It's not really the traditional gift for a three-year anniversary, but some traditions are going to go out the window when the entire world is a ravaged wasteland dominated by crazed survivalists.
