Are you happier now that the Xbox One has changed its policies?

I'm not sure to be honest. I haven't fully cheched out the consoles features, what's good and what's bad. I've always liked the Xbox consoles more than the Playstation consoles though. I like the fat controls that fills up your hands when playing XD

Really? What makes it a great tank? I managed to take it out from full health in 1vs1 with a VK30.02D, it didn't look great at all to me then xD if it was an IS3, T32, or pretty much any other tier 8 heavy, I would be the one ending up as a wreck xD

Sony did a brilliant job of playing to their audience by rolling up a newspaper and hitting Microsoft on the nose with it by making it a consumer experience issue. The problem of the used game DRM and other 24-hr check in nonsense (to make their lending/library work) is that it greatly impacts user experience and particularly to the detriment of honest users.

Users who are "dishonest" (and I'll use this term only because they're people who break the ToS of the Xbox license, however asinine or restrictive it is) will not suffer any of these experience issues. They'll play games that they've broken out of the DRM, trick the box into thinking that it's been in contact when it hasn't, and even be able to keep all their functions when their Internet goes down.

Microsoft backing off entirely is really curious because it suggests that not only was the policy of adding these new services ill-thought-out, but MS did so in a thoughtless manner in the presentation to the public.

Digital downloaded games certainly changes the long tail and the used-game market -- pretty much by making games essentially licenses, but they're still a mixed idea of product and license. Only the actual online-only game is really a service (and therefore a license to play) whereas solo games this makes no sense, but a lot of modern publishers are trying to connect them together. It's almost like when Microsoft "embedded" Internet Explorer in Windows in order to disrupt competition.

Making solo games require the Internet -- or in particular a special service -- directly insults and injures consumers. It means that customers who don't have reliable Internet connexion or that service ever goes away then poof so does their game. In many ways, this loss of user experience makes the game less valuable.

Yes, if people can resell used games it makes publishers less-interested in doing big sales in games, such as we see on Steam; but by locking out potential customers, giving them substandard products, and also locking them into a particular service (from which they cannot escape) means angry customers.

This isn't sustainable; but the publishers who do this are just waiting out the digital tide.

Right now we're watching the shift to digital distribution, like Steam, digital stores, etc. slowly eroding the concept of software ownership. It'll keep chipping away until finally all games are software as a service, and purely a license, with DRM and restrictions included and bad customer service -- yet never dropping below $60 at launch because that's what boxes cost.

That may be what the publishers want as it'll make them more money in the end, lower overhead, same price to consumer; but it's definitely not what gamers want. Sure consumers want products cheaper, faster, and better than before; but they also want the product to have quality, value, and to run on the system they bought it for without strange restrictions weakening their experience.

I want to game. I will engage with that game according to my ability to play and keep it. Obstruct that and you lessen the value of that game -- I will look elsewhere for my game.

Yes but I wasn't really upset to begin with. I liked Microsoft's vision and I think this whole thing was blown out of proportion.. I do get why people were so upset with somethings like 24 hour check ins... Microsoft's plan was far from perfect but they had a lot of cool ideas.

I like the reversal overall though, the world is clearly not ready for what they were proposing and a competitive X1 is better for everyone. The indie game flip is just icing at this point.
