What do you think is the least important holiday of the year?

Discussion in 'Ogres Breakfast' started by Snowy, Jul 24, 2017.

  1. I never seem to understand why we have St. Patrick's Day. The two characteristics I see about the holiday are people pinching other people who aren't wearing green and drinking, none of which really interests me.

It has to be Halloween since it's not even a original national holiday. We adopted it from somewhere else.

I find Saint Patricks day and the Presidents Day to not really be something school should be released for. I mean I know some of these founding fathers did great things in the past. However, I don't find it necessary todays perspective.

Actually, Saint Patrick's day is significant, just not in the U.S or mainland Europe, as it is significant in Ireland, signifying Ireland's first (significant) glimpse of Christianity. I believe the most pointless holiday is Cinco de Mayo. I mean, come on, it wasn't even the French's final defeat against the Mexican republicans! It was just an everyday battle during war! Sure, they were outnumbered, but so were the Canadians when they came out victorious after fighting the Croatians in Yugoslavia, but you don't see them getting a holiday! :veryangry2:

I'd have to say Halloween even though it's probably my favorite time of the year.

I would say Halloween because it is barely celebrated where i live, not that many people go trick or treating in my neighborhood or just dress in any Halloween costume.

I don't care for any of the holidays except Christmas because of the gifting. Even then I don't care that much about it.

I personally don't find any holiday categorically unimportant to state.

  13. Never understood why people make New Year such an important holiday, especially since the year will be around for 365 or sometimes 366 days. People celebrate a new year like it only happens once in their lifetime.

Like think about it for a moment. If the average lifespan of a human is 80 years, you've been through Christmas 79-80 times, but you've been through any particular year 365-366 times.

But aside from that, I've never been a fan of fireworks or firecrackers (it's already enough hearing them once per year, on 4th of July). And I really don't get how people can afford Halloween decorations, and then set up Christmas decorations, only to then set up firecrackers in their backyard.
