Welcome friends! Come in and make yourselves at home! Today… today is a new day, today is the day we ditch the more traditional serious gaming articles you read all around the web for a relaxed and chill discussion. Today! We stop saying today for one.. sheese… ok just one more… Today! We talk Hearthstone!

What is Hearthstone you ask? Why it’s the upcoming F2P online card game from Blizzard of course! You know the guys that made World of Warcraft, Diablo and Starcraft… yup I know right? It totally makes sense they are in the card game business now… it honestly didn’t surprise anyone at all… for those will broke sarcasm meters, that was a joke. But on a more serious note, fear not Blizzard fans! All your favorite IPs are still well intact. In fact this game comes from a little team of developers called “Team 5” but I’m getting a little ahead of myself here.

You see apparently Blizzard is a cult of card playing whack jobs… whoops… I mean they have a sizeable number of employees that really like card games. Soo when the opportunity arose to form a small team to make a new project it was and I quote here “a no-brainer” to make a card game. Welll… most of the rest of the world disagreed, it was a giant whaaaa? moment when Hearthstone was announced but then something amazing happened, it turns out these card playing cultists who called themselves “Team 5” actually know what they are doing and successfully produced an interesting card game. Who would’a thunk it!

All kidding aside, Hearthstone is a fantastic card game. Hearthstone fully titled as Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is set in the Warcraft universe, World of/Warcraft fans will recognize familiar names, creatures and even music… Heroes and their class cards even mimic the styles of their classes in World of Warcraft. Those that aren’t seasoned in Warcraft lore fear not! Hearthstone is very much a card game, emphasis on card game… thus far there really is no story so don’t worry about being lost. It’s all about the gameplay here but Warcraft has a rich history so it’s nice to know it’s drawing from something.

As for the gameplay itself well I’m not gonna get into that this time. *troll* I may have another one of these in the coming week with details on game modes, gameplay and some info on pricing.

Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is a F2P online card game that’s currently in closed beta. Latest word is they are still looking at releasing before the end of the year. Open Beta is the next step towards release… it will allow everyone to sign up and play. If you’re even remotely interested in card games don’t hesitate to give this one a try, it’s super easy to jump into.

Thank you all for joining me, feel free to give your impressions on the game and/or any questions in the comment section below.

  1. I haven’t gotten into the beta yet; however, I do enjoy watching this game get played and there’s a lot of videos running around. I’ll have to hop in and get clobbered when I get the chance.

    • Don’t worry, they’ve got a nice beginner AI that’s excellent to beat up on after being completely destroyed by multiple really good players xD If you get the chance to play let me know, maybe we can play a friendly match. 🙂

    • I think they said they will be basically doubling the number of users in beta sometime this week, latest chatter suggest Open Beta isn’t that far off either. 🙂 If all else fails they say they still are aiming to release in 2013. 🙂

    • I don’t know about the best but it’s certainly one of the most polished and easy to get into TCGs. I liken it to Duel Masters, which was basically a simplified Magic The Gathering, amazing game as it still had depth but you didn’t need to spend tons of hours learning all the cards to be able to play.

Hearthstone is just like that, it has some depth to it if you really look but your also fine just playing the game… obviously not at an elite level but you can at least sit down and understand what to do without a ton of learning.

They’ve made an excellent base, the future of the game rests on how well they can expand on it… adding more complexity but hopefully still keeping the jump in an play aspect too.

  3. This article is quite old, but i am going to say something about Hearthstone as it is now.
Hearthstone requires you to grind gold either by doing quests, winning games or playing arena to get packs so you can get more cards and cards you already have/don’t need, you can turn them into dust and craft cards with that dust. There are also adventures that you can play to unlock cards that you can only get from said adventures, but Blizzard has changed their approach with them by releasing new adventures for free without locking cards behind them, but still awarding cards or card packs from them. It basically encourages you to buy packs with real money to skip that progress, but F2P has improved vastly so either choice works.
I don’t really like playing card games let it be virtual or not so i am more of an observer type, l will rather watch people play rather than play myself.
Hearthstone is a good card game, but as it stands, it involves luck and that is what i don’t like about card games so even if you outplay your opponents, they can still manage to top deck a card that solves their problems and you lose even if you are good at the game.
