  • The Oregon Trail game struck a chord with gamers over half a century ago, and game development teams have since been remaking the game for new players every chance they get.

As a result, many versions of the […]

    • I’ve definitely heard of The Oregon Trail before since it’s an old but classic game, but never realized there was an anniversary edition as late as the 2010s. The games were pretty fun.

  • The year 2021 was hit by the brunt of the pandemic but it still saw the release of many amazing video games so this list was not an easy one to compile. Most interestingly, Final Fantasy XIV stole the spotlight […]

    • I really enjoyed Metroid Dread, since it’s been more than a decade since there’s really been a “good” Metroid game. Definitely a game that deserved to be on the top spot.

  • If you have an internet connection, then there is simply no escaping the awesomeness of online gaming! Whether you are a console player, computer gamer or even a mobile phone game lover, there is something for […]

    • I’m quite surprised Roblox is as popular as it is today. I mean the game started out in 2006, and for a game that old, you’d think there’d be less active users, but Roblox is picking up over a 100 million active users a month which is crazy.

  • The season 11 of Apex Legends has brought along drastic changes to the game. Not only is there a new legend to mess around with, but also new guns are added into the game. This time around the developers have also […]

    • I’m sure it’s possible to find budget gaming laptops that can run games with really high FPS, but they’re usually hard to find or sold out. And sometimes it’s better to wait until Black Friday when some of the great gaming laptops are at a great price anyway.

  • There is no denying that video games have risen significantly over the last few years, but it is true to say that this impressive growth has been the story for much of the industry’s life. Many will know how v […]

    • Yeah, having the same device (or system) makes sense for certain games. It’s kind of unfortunate that I can’t play Minecraft (Java Edition – PC) with friends that play Minecraft (Bedrock Edition – console).

  • The world of gaming is a world in need of more security especially when playing with others online. Indeed, gaming doesn’t usually require money or cryptocurrencies to play, but it does, however, include some i […]

    • Definitely good tips, though I think security for a game like CS:GO may be a bit “too secure” unless you’re some popular video game streamer (or potential target). Usually security isn’t on my radar when I’m playing games.

  • Video games have had a close relationship with mini-games since the advent of arcade games. Just as movies embrace mini-games as a theme, so do actual video games. Such mini-games traditionally feature exciting […]

    • Personally my favorite mini-games would probably be from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time since that game, for its time, brought so much to the table. There are fun mini-games like Dampe’s Graveyard Tour, Archery Range, and Bombchu Bowling, and then there’s the infamous Fishing mini-game.

  • Online gaming has become the best form of entertainment for many people globally. Instead of players traveling to arcades available in their area, many players have switched to online websites. However, some […]

  • Every game lover knows that a good game requires a well-done design. It’s not surprising that there are jobs devoted only to this because it’s a lot of work – hours and hours of projecting and creating. A per […]

    • The broadness of game design would probably make it easy for just about anyone to jump in. That broadness would cover pretty much anything from art, music, modeling, storyboard writer, etc.

And I think the easiest occupation for a game designer would be a freelancer, since they can always create assets that other game designers could use, so you really don’t need to be in a big company or studio to be a game designer. Plus, creating assets as a freelancer would actually make a game designer more employable, especially if they can showcase what they’ve made.

  • For video game enthusiasts, 2021 was a great year with some amazing releases, including some sequels to well-known franchises. As the year came to a close, players were waiting for something radically new in 2022. […]

    • For me, my most anticipated game for 2022 is a Breath of the Wild sequel. Nintendo’s been killing these last couple of years with amazing games, from Animal Crossing: New Horizons to Metroid: Dread, and I think the trend will continue strongly.

  • For the longest time, the video game industry has continued to offer its users more improved graphics and advanced technology. Artificial intelligence is used in gaming to generate adaptive, intelligent, and […]

    • I think artificial intelligence is an interesting subject in video games. Some AI and machine learning algorithms require a good understanding of data science, but it’s pretty easy to find many examples online if you plan on making a game. For instance, if you create a turn-based RPG where there’s a player vs. a computer, you might run a Monte Carlo distribution.

A lot of AI and machine learning, if you plan on creating your own algorithms, requires applications of more advanced topics like statistics and even matrix algebra (e.g. Markov chains to predict outcomes/events), so I think there’s a good amount of research that game developers would have to conduct.

  • This remains one of the most burning questions of all, but the battle between the leading iOS and Android mobile operating systems wages on. On a personal level, users may have preferred one over the other in the […]

    • iOS is a solid choice. Unfortunately a good amount of mobile games became unsupported for devices up to the iPhone 6 (I think iOS version 10), but I’m feeling confident that the newer iPhones will be sturdy for gaming for a long time. Not so sure about Android though, but I don’t see a point in getting an Android device since there are better alternatives for playing Android games (like running BlueStacks on a gaming PC).

  • Historical accuracy in video games is one of the most hotly debated topics within the video game community. Whether or not a game’s mechanics should be influenced by the era in which it is set has been a problem t […]

    • If a game was historically accurate, I think it would feel like reliving events that you would already know the outcome of, which just isn’t that interesting. I think creativity and imagination is indeed important since it actually gives purpose to the audience. Even a game that’s more in the realm of “alternate history” would probably be captivating.

  • Call of Duty Warzone has amassed quite a large competitive following around it and as a result, the esports scene of the game has grown tremendously. The flamboyant esports scene and a prize pool that is […]

    • 144 FPS is kind of insane. One consideration is whether you can find all of the PC parts to even construct the desired gaming PC, since it’s kind of difficult to find parts for an enthusiast gaming PC build.

  • Everything You Need to Know About CS: GO Team Na’Vi
When it comes to competitive games, we all have different preferences. For example, if you want to try a very exciting game genre, you can take a look at the […]

    • Seems like a nice history, and I think it’s clever that they incorporated a Latin phrase into their team name, in fact, fittingly since they really were born to win.

  • Gaming equipment can be a tricky thing to shop for. With so many different types and brands of gaming products out there, it can be difficult to find those that suit your needs best. This article will explore some […]

    • I think the most important factor to keep in mind, when purchasing gaming equipment, is considering upgradability. So it would be most important to focus on the parts that are the least upgradable (SSD [get a good one that will last from a trusted brand such as WesternDigital Blue with preferably 2TB which should be more than enough storage], Motherboard [a decent form factor, at least a mid-tower], PC case [a form factor that supports the motherboard, preferably a mid-tower or a full tower]).

CPUs and GPUs are pretty easy to upgrade, and I think those should be the last thing to consider when shopping for parts after considering the other parts. You’ll need both, but which one you choose to budget more over the other would probably depend on what games you play though, the differences between prices (I think GPUs tend to be more expensive), and even the availability of the product.

  • To an outsider, British people can be seen as a peculiar bunch. There’s an assumption that we spend all our time drinking tea or watching cricket but we actually engage in all sorts of leisure activities. Many […]

    • I don’t think the British demographic is really that different from any other demographic, especially when it comes to gaming. Sure, there are stereotypes associated with them (tea, rugby, etc.), but the same could be said about the American demographic (American football, fast food, etc.).

I think on a general level, games are universally enjoyed by everyone. Now if we mention something specific, like gaming consoles, I feel like the United States is the oddball. For example, Xbox is very popular in the United States, but not so much elsewhere since PlayStation is a behemoth outside of the United States.

  • You may think that buying a laptop is easy but there are many things to think about. Once you walk into a computer store, you may feel overwhelmed at the abundant choices available. These devices may all look the […]

    • Looking at laptops for 2021, the new Macbook models are probably the best bang for your buck, especially in performance with the M1 chip.

  • Online games have exploded in popularity over the last few years, delivering to players an immersive and highly exciting form of entertainment. You might be wondering what exactly live TV game shows are and how […]

  • The gaming industry is one of the most successful in the world, and now there is no doubt that it is also very popular. Nowadays, it doesn’t matter if you’re an occasional amateur gamer or an avid gamer testing […]

    • For me, it’s hard to tell what the best 2022 PC games will be since 2022 just started. Usually the best games are released around the holidays and announced in the summer leading up to the holidays.
