  • Within the last couple years gamers have shifted their allegiances to solid-state drives (SSD) from the traditional Hard Disk Drive (HDD). Many gamers will say the SSD is superior to the HDD, but the truth is much […]

    • This is a thing to consider when building yourself a PC. I can see why people prefer SDD over HDD, but it all depends on what you need.

    • Hard drives on your PS4 is good I had to buy a 1TB Seagate harddrive because the PS4 only stores like 500GB but with a harddrive you can store up to 50 games. Games these taking up more and more space because of how much attention to detail they put into them.

      • That’s why getting PS4 with a bigger hard drive is a good idea if you are going to be getting many games for it.

    • SSDs are being more popular, mainly because there aren’t moving parts like a hard drive (spinning platters, plus seek time, access time, and transfer time incurred by the arm having to move around). Electricity is so much faster than any mechanical motion.

And another good advantage to SSD is a technique called “wear leveling” which keeps essentially extends the lifetime of SSDs, which isn’t as practical on hard drives. But I think if an SSD fails, it’s harder to recover data from a failed SSD than it is from a failed HDD, but SSDs are generally going to better the better option.

  • There are so many myths and stereotypes about online gamers. How does a person who loves online games look like in the eyes of people far from video games? This is most often a guy without hobbies, financially […]

    • Media does like to bash on video games, but maybe someday they will start to praise them.

    • Famous game with a mobile port? I bet this is going to work for Apex Legends because of the sheer amount of players it has.

    • Pretty cool how this game will have a mobile port hopefully later on they have a VR support

    • Personally I don’t think Apex Legends on mobile is anything to be too hyped about, especially since Fortnite had already been on mobile. And in terms of competition, I’m pretty sure games like Fortnite and Apex Legends will still be popular for PC. Consoles are alright, but you don’t get the same precision of control as you do with a mouse or the versatility like with a keyboard. And mobile is even worse for competitive gameplay, so I think the real reason to even have these games on console and mobile is more for convenience than it is for competitive play.

    • You certainly can if you know what you are doing and have some luck too.

    • The problem with esports is that it’s too specific of a category, and tons of people are competing in that market. The best way to succeed is to look at the more general trend and see what other opportunities there are, because it’s going to be tough for the average gamer to make anything out of esports.

  • There are courses and degree programs for eCommerce. There are all kinds of online programs for any interest you could possibly have. Is it too much of us to ask for eSports programs at universities? It’s what w […]

    • Nice

    • That’s more than I expected! Nice to see Esports getting more exposure.

    • Pretty cool how some universities have esports programs now, it’s the future.

    • Honestly, if someone planned to go to a university or college just for eSports, I would tell them that they’re looking in the wrong direction. The biggest problem with colleges, especially universities, is that they’ve become bureaucratic, more interested in making a profit from students by any means (gaming recreations like these eSports programs, mandatory online books, expensive parking passes, etc.) more so than actually encouraging the growth of academia. Universities are probably the worse place to get into eSports at all since you’ll be spending a lot of money each semester, but admittedly, you can build some good connections with people you meet. I think gaming centers, Internet cafes, and other recreational places would be better options.

    • You can make use of your experience and skill even in luck based games. Be one step ahead of your opponent!

    • Experience and skill comes into major factor winning online games

    • It’s too broad to determine strategies to win online games, because there are a lot of games out there which employ different strategies. It’s easier to narrow down by genre, but even then, it’s hard to say what the winning strategy is because even genres vary, and I’m assuming “winning” would imply that these games would generally be associated with PvP.

For team-based games, especially MOBAs, I think the strategies to think of are team composition and lane choice.

For shooter games, I think the important strategy is understanding each game mode you’re playing since shooter games vary a lot with modes like CTF, deathmatch, etc., and you might as well keep up with every single one in case anyone wants to challenge you in their mode. But also understand how to use weapons properly (number of ammo, reload time, weapon accuracy, etc.).

For tower defense and RTS, playing defensively is usually a pretty good strategy, though it does vary on the game itself most of the time. Maybe you have units and you may want to retreat because enemies are rushing towards you, and you might find a better advantage to coalesce with your other units, use terrain to your advantage, or just lure the enemy to your own artilleries and traps.

All of these are a bit more specific, but still a bit broad. But I think these are pretty good strategies for their respective genres.

    • If you play fast games like FPS or fighting games, being physically fit is going to help you! Practice and get your game sense in shape!

    • I feel like this article fails to mention what a “Cyber Sportsman” or what “cybersports” even is, expecting that the reader should know before reading this article. Same goes with the “Gamification in Gaming” article which fails to explain the term “gamification.”

And honestly, searching the term “cyber sportsman”, I can’t find any meaningful results. And searching “cybersports” in a search engine shows various results from online sports games to esports, so no meaningful results there, so it would have definitely been nice to have those explained in the introduction of the article.

    • I don’t want P2P games to wither away, they were the reason that F2P games started to come out to begin with.

    • I think free-to-play and pay-to-play games can both co-exist, and they’re both growing. You have different innovations, style, development, and so on from both models. Free-to-play games tend to be more popular with indie developers and pay-to-play games tend to be more popular with established publishers (like Nintendo). Free-to-play games are generally shorter or simpler while pay-to-play games tend to go more in-depth. It all just comes down to preference.

    • Browser based games have changed over the years and they are still going!

    • I think they only thing that is dying is the Flash plugin, they’re even discontinuing the use of it in 2020 which could be a problem for many browser based games.

    • I think the biggest successor to browser games is now mobile games. People tend to think that mobile games have been competing with portable games (e.g. 3DS, PSP, PSVita, Switch, etc.), and while it’s true to some extent, I think both mobile games and portable games have different communities, different markets, and different outlooks on gameplay. Browser games tend to be quick and simple to play, a way to just get games out there for people to try out and most of the times free-to-play, and mobile games have mainly been following that model, rather than competing with portable games which are on a different level (more complex games, full-price games, and larger development teams). However, portable consoles have been leaning towards the browser and mobile game model, especially with the popularization of indie developers.

But going back to mobile vs. browser games, Apple did pretty much kill any future for browser games by killing off Flash.

    • Find the site to play on is the first step and when that’s out of the way, you need to find a game to play. Finding the game to play is the most difficult part.

    • Personally, I would just delve into the game and evaluate the experience from there. Not really worth it to inspect requirements or gauge the site’s consistency unless maybe you’re spending money in the game and want to know if it’s actually worth the time. Just depends on the situation, and what kind of site it is.
