    • Interface designs have been changing over the years and it’s pretty cool to see how things change.

    • I’m really looking forward to some amazing Virtual Reality multiplayer games. It’ll be awesome!

    • Custom chats sound cool for multiplayer games. One idea I’ve always thought of is, what if you could talk to the game, and the game just has speech recognition where it outputs the text version of what you say? I’m pretty sure custom chats have been explored in all kinds of perspectives, but have never had any meaningful outcome. Like the biggest problem would be language barrier, which makes custom chats (of any kind) a bit unachievable, because you have to account for various languages, accents, etc.

Virtual reality is something I’d expect very little of. It would work for some multiplayer games (like the popular MMOVR game “VRChat”), but not for every multiplayer game, especially for games where you have to move a lot (FPS games) or games where you’ll invest tons of hours on since it would probably be nauseating to move your head around with weight on your face. Besides, I find controlling a mouse more precise than controlling a VR headset while holding VR accessories. Plus having to stare at grainy pixels through a VR headset gives me a headache, and surely it’s not good for the health of your eye. VR just seems to be more of a burden to gaming than a benefit.

A bunch of the other features mentioned in this article have been around for a long time already, and there’s only so much you can do with them, so there’ll probably just be smaller progressions for those. For instance, it’s already easy to choose opponents in many online games; I think the biggest area for improvement is making ranked battles more equal or balanced, because there are still tons of games that haven’t done ranked battles right. Other things like story-driven (probably best for co-op play) and good gameplay (whatever “good” even means) games are more on the subjective side since there are just different views on what multiplayer games should entail.

    • Mobile gaming apps which are most compatible are going to get popular.

    • Mobile apps are just very convenient so more people use them.

    • Most popular mobile games under whichever category (or genre) you’re looking for are generally the best to play, but you have to be careful sometimes. Lots of game companies have been trying to find ways to make their games appear more frequently on the application store by employing techniques like encouraging referrals by rewarding in-game items or other goodies, or by getting users to search a specific term in the application store’s search bar to install the game so that the game is ranked higher in the search of a specific term, and some of these games aren’t really that great at all. For instance, most of those games are filled with ads; I’ve been seeing a ton of “popular” mobile games lately where after every level you complete (or fail), you have to watch an ad which is kind of lame. So it’s important to be wary of these sort of practices game companies employ, when you’re looking for mobile games; don’t just assume that the most popular game you find will be that good.

  • All About Gaming Engineers and How To Become One

    • It can be a good job but you need to be motivated and committed for things to work out.

    • It’s a great job but I’m not too technology minded plus all of the bugs and issues players bring up would just annoy me so much.

    • I’ve always found the terms “game engineer”, “game developer”, and “game designer” all to mean different things, and perhaps other people have their own interpretation of these terms rather than some jargon that all means the same thing. But here’s what I think coming from my own experience:

I’ve always thought of game engineers as the type of people that build game engines. For instance, someone that creates back-end functionalities or scripts that can be reused, and/or creates software that allows the ease of game development. Instances of game engines would include things like Unity, Unreal Engine, CryEngine, GameMaker, Godot, RPGMaker, etc.

Game developers are those that actually build the game itself, whether they’re programming the game (on the front-end), creating music for the game, adding art to the game, writing the story, etc. It’s about applying game design ideas to actually create the game.

Game designers are those that plan out the game, or brainstorm, usually starting off with a Game Design Document and modelling off what their game should encompass. Things like, what kind of enemies should this game have, how many levels should this game have, what modes should be added, how should the user interact with the game, etc. Game design is more like laying out the foundations of a game, rather than applying anything down to make the game; in other words, you can think of it as the skeleton of the game.

  • Here we are, sitting around with all of these gaming consoles and video games scattered all over the room.  How much money have we spent on these video games?  Have you ever just sat back and thought about t […]

    • I do expect them to raise as the technology advances.

    • I sure hope the prices don’t go super high. I would understand the prices changing for more high-tech games though.

    • I’d expect the video game business to be more like the “razor and blades business model”, where one component is sold cheap and the other component is sold high (in other words, sell consoles to consumers for a cheap price, but make the games expensive), but it’s not exactly like that, because both consoles and games have gone up. I think part of the reason is that there are increasing technological advances and also an increasing demand for silicon chips, but it doesn’t make sense for some things. For instance, you might find a re-release of a childhood game and the download copy costs $60, probably costing a lot more than that original game, so that part doesn’t make much sense at all since you’d be better off purchasing the original game, so I think there are other reasons as well. Perhaps game publishers want to create a buffer in the case of external factors (like inflation of the economy, lawsuits over video game products or consoles, defects, etc.). There’s a lot behind closed doors that we really don’t know when it comes to pricing, and there are definitely reasons beyond “technological advances” for increased prices of games.

  • Gaming via Twitch livestreams continues to grow by leaps and bounds. Not only are more people watching others play games online than ever before, but developers are now showing a keen interest in streaming too. […]

    • I will watch streams rather than streaming myself.

    • I’ve always wanted to try becoming a streamer lol. I wonder if I would ever be able to make it.

    • Personally I’m not a huge fan of Twitch; I think it’s most suitable for watching video game events like tournaments, battles/PvP/eSports, and things like that, but not so much for watching regular gameplay (e.g. let’s plays of older games) or even hundreds of speedrun attempts, which explains why most of the top categories are for games like Fortnite, Dota 2, and Hearthstone, or even Just Chatting. I think the main issue with Twitch is that it’s just oversaturated with streamers, and a lot of streams feel low quality. Personally I prefer YouTube for watching games, because videos are generally edited to make the video engaging to watch, but also not as lengthy as a stream; plus you can always pause the video and watch it later (though Twitch does have a thing that lets streamers save streamers as videos, but I find that less convenient).

    • Another genre that came from game mods? That’s pretty cool indeed! It’s literally free-for-all under a different name though.

    • Battle royale is good mode in fps online games .. Especially if you want more hard core surviving sequel

      • Sure, you can find game modes that have Battle Royale elements in first-person shooters, but I will add that Battle Royale has kind of become its own genre at this point, instead of a subgenre. Battle Royale used to be more like a subgenre of the survival genre and the shooter genre, but games like Fall Guys and the Nintendo Switch Online arcade games (Tetris 99, Mario 35, PACMAN 99) have probably impacted the genre the most, particularly with how the genre should be categorized.

    • Sounds like a good antivirus to use!

    • If it works and works well I’m game.

    • I don’t think it matters what antivirus software you have (to an extent), as long as you have an antivirus software. Kind of a necessity, even for things outside of gaming. I tend to just stick with free options of an antivirus software, like Avast and Malwarebytes, rather than a premium antivirus software, and haven’t had any issues, for both gaming and browsing the web. I think for personal use, free antivirus is a better option, but for more sensitive things, premium is probably better. Gaming isn’t really sensitive, so I don’t need premium antivirus software like Intrusta.
