The GameCube controller is probably the best video game controller ever made; it’s a popular choice in the Smash community (and popular for fighting games, in general), and there are even companies making Gamecube controllers that are compatible for newer consoles like the Switch or even for PC (even better, if you have keybinding options). I think it’s a well-designed controller.

For instance, the varying-sized buttons on the right-hand side make a lot of sense for games where certain controls are more prominent than other controls. And it’s especially nice for fighting games where you have to press certain combinations of buttons. Plus the buttons are pretty big, so you’re less likely to accidentally press the wrong buttons which is kind of an issue with controllers such as the Switch’s Joy-Cons, because those buttons are small and close to each other.

And the directional pad on the left-hand side is pretty much an essential part of a controller (it’s analogous to the WASD keys of a keyboard) and it’s a lot better than Xbox One’s clunky design (the one shaped as a debossed circle with squares).

And the best part is probably the analog stick; you can fine-tune your movements since the perimeter surrounding the analog stick is octagonal, giving you a smoother degree of freedom. It’s really great for a lot of 3D games.

And if I recall correctly, the shoulder buttons are pretty good as well. You have both tactile triggers and pressure-sensitive analog triggers. It’s hard to fine any other controller that’s better than the GameCube controller.

Never heard about mystery box websites before but it’s good to know about them regardless.

Pretty good to see Slay the Spire as one of the first games to play on a new gaming PC. Definitely one of the most interesting deck-building games with one of the best roguelike experiences.

It’s very cool that we are able to get a permanent blue ogre travel form with Blue Ogre Souls! I will be using it a lot when I get it!

There are many online game sites that have free games on them like Miniclip for example.

I already found my online games site a year ago.. The Adventure Quest World.. Its just sad that the player drops from 30k to 4k now

Agar was pretty fun, though I mostly played that game in the summer months, especially in summer of 2015. Not saying that it’s a game exclusively for the summer; it’s good to play in the winter months as well, especially since children tend to be out of school and adults are off work. Pretty much any multiplayer game would be fun to play in the winter, because there’s usually more activity during the holidays.

Younger generation gets used to things we are used to.

I thought the younger generation would be smart enough to not get hit by scam.

Parental controls aren’t necessarily that hard to police, when it comes to games. It’s just that a number of parents of today’s generation aren’t really looking into them when they probably should. For instance, there are website blockers for PC gaming, and most video game consoles have parental control settings.

And I’m pretty sure Internet scams were a lot worse back in the 90s and early 2000s than it is now. The Internet wasn’t as structured back then as it is now, and there wasn’t such thing as “free antivirus software” back then which made computers vulnerable to receiving viruses.

If anything, I’d say children’s use of technology has vastly improved far beyond what this article implies. It’s easy to overlook the positives (like better parental controls and better scam mitigations), because there tends to be a bit of survivorship bias in the recording of data; that is, there tends to be a higher tendency of people reporting the negatives than talking about the positives.

It did get into using Discord and I have to say that it was worth it! I was very doubtful of Skype and then I discovered Discord.

To discord I say.. Cuz I am currently a member with too many guilds xD I have many guilds on discord .. Aq3D , a pokemon and more ! .. Friends:v

I find discord to be far better than skype.

Discord is not as chaotic as you think (though the word discord does literally mean chaos, or more specifically the lack of harmony), since you have so much versatility with how you manage your server (webhooks, Discord bots, user permissions, roles, channels, etc.). I think the customization of Discord makes it far better than many other services such as Skype, Zoom, Teams, etc. Plus a good number of workplaces and schools are using Discord as their means of communication, so it extends beyond just gaming communities.

Black Friday is kind of a chaotic holiday, whether you buy anything in-person or online; sure you can get some great deals, but I think you can find better deals for gaming PCs without much of that hassle or inconvenience. For instance, gaming PCs tend to be a bit more expensive on Amazon, especially if it’s a pre-built PC. Plus I personally prefer Newegg and PCPartPicker, because I know I can usually get a better value and I can find out the right specs for an excellent PC.

It’s good to start with very casual games to get some experience and then start making better games.

Not sure if I’ll use these tips but they still are good. c:

Targeting everyone isn’t always practical, because you’re always going to have different types of gamers, so it’s really a choice between making games that you’re passionate about or making games that seem to appeal a good number of people. For instance, don’t expect to create the next Fortnite, Minecraft, or some other big title that caters to a massive amount of people, because dreaming too big will just delay development; keep your idea to a reasonable scope and create a planner with incremental steps of things to add to your game (e.g. use a Gantt chart to illustrate your development process).

But one important thing, probably the most important thing, is to find people to work with, because it’s a lot harder to make games (especially good games) by yourself, especially if you’re only skilled in one particular aspect of game development; plus when you communicate with people other than yourself, you actually get good advice. Even if you’re a solo game developer that can program, create music, model and make art, it’s still good to get advice. For instance, indie game developer Thomas Brush streams his game development on YouTube and occasionally gets good advice from users in his stream chat.

And when it comes to getting started with publishing a game, there are a few ways you can approach it. One of the most common entries, especially in the previous decade, was to create a game in Adobe Flash and upload it to some game sharing site (ArmorGames, Newgrounds, etc.), but that’s not practical anymore since Flash is long gone. I would recommend itch.io for uploading games, especially since it’s popular for developers publishing games during game jams and for indie developers. You could certainly explore other options like Steam, the Apple Appstore, and Google’s Play Store, but you should definitely research the option that’s just right for you.

And once you create and publish a game, add the game to your resumé (C.V.). Doing that can help you get into a larger game development team, or even build social connections with other developers.

New Zealand seems like an oddball, when it comes to online games, because I don’t ever think about online games originating from there. Definitely not the first country I think of, when it comes to online games, since I generally think of Korea for MMOs (Nexon, NCSoft, etc.), Japan for console games (Nintendo, Sony, SEGA, Square Enix, Konami, etc.), or America for PC games (Blizzard, EA, etc.).

And this article doesn’t feature a whole lot, other than The NewZealand Story which is themed on New Zealand, but doesn’t originate there since it’s developed by Japanese company Taito, and I don’t know if that game is even that popular in New Zealand.

I have only heard about Rage 2 out of all these games.

I’m excited for some of these.
