Gaming on phones that predate smartphones was always kind of clunky. Sure, you had buttons rather than a touchscreen which probably offered better control, but you had to deal with such a small screen plus the display usually looked terrible. And because phones had different models, rather than something more uniform we see today, some games were specific to certain hardware. From the early 90s to the early 2010s, it was more preferable to play on handheld gaming consoles from the Game Boy to the Nintendo DS than on a phone, until Apple’s smartphone, the iPhone, took off.

Population and accessibility is definitely a factor in the growth of online games. India and China alone have the world’s largest populations, and devices like phones are becoming incredibly accessible which allows for game companies to grow more. I think that’s the main reason why mobile games are especially big.

There is also that morality question to follow ToS of different gaming companies and their games which some of them do outright disallow you from using VPPs. I don’t recommend using VPs if they are not allowed according to ToS myself, but it’s a risk to take if you really want to do so.

Pretty good tips, but I think it’s important to accept that not everyone can be good in VR games. For instance, one thing that hasn’t been mentioned at all is motion sickness which is probably the #1 disadvantage of VR. Motion sickness can be quite problematic, especially since what one sees through the lens of a VR headset doesn’t reflect one’s own equilibrioception, which is a common sympton for newcomers to VR. Some people can adjust to the disorientation of VR just from getting used to VR, while others can’t adapt as easily.
