Alter Aeon is an old MUD that's been around since 1995. It has a custom client that adds a graphical map and other features, but it can also be played using standard MUD clients. The game is newbie and blind friendly, so if you've never played a MUD before, you may want to take a look.

The game theme is swords and sorcery/D&D, with dragons, priests, and spellcasting. All characters are multiclass, with the four basic classes of mage (spellcaster), cleric (priest/godly power), thief (stealth and social engineering), and warrior (melee combat). Other skill sets, such as druid or ranger, are built from combinations of these.

New players will find an extensive support structure of Avatars, low level areas and quests specifically designed for newbies, as well as extensive on-line help and FAQs. Advanced players will find no shortage of areas to explore, quests to complete, or items to find. Clans, guilds, and player owned shops provide an entertaining place to spend down time.

Chaos Lands is a fantasy based free massive multiplayer online role-playing game with a turn-based strategy battlefield where players around the world can create their characters and face each other in battle. Genesis is the original LPMud, though little remains of the stuff from the early days. The emphasis of the mud is to be a challenging game. Themes includes Tolkien, Dragon Lance and many others. The world is strictly medieval fantasy based.

Star Wars mud is a heavily modified LPmud based on the Star Wars Universe. SWmud is not a role-playing MUD, though role-playing is not forbidden as long as it is within the rules. We do not have a particular theme or time period on which we are based, though most of the MUD is roughly set during the original trilogy of movies and a few years of the Expanded Universe thereafter. We have around 40 planets and space stations coded, averaging between 150-200 rooms each, with some areas nearing 1000 rooms.

Stone Age Online is an online multiplayer game that is driven by the community. The world will start off as a huge forest with plains, water and mines. To survive you have to create your own shelter or team up with others to make a large village. Villages will be able to have war with each other and form powerful kindgoms. Gameplay will be as realistic as possible, but some aspects, such as Magic may be introduced. There will be a fixed pool of money and resources and when they start to run out, fighting between villages and kingdoms will increase. Eventually when all the resources run out the game will have to be reset.

Wyvern is an exciting MMORPG, loosely based on LP Muds, Nethack, Crossfire and the old Ultima games. The game has thousands of active players as well as hundreds of monsters/spells/items and a wide selection of quests, skills, races, guilds to choose from.

In Wyvern you can fight your way into a place in the Hall of Fame or you can become a Wizard/Immortal, allowing you to build and upload your own areas to the game.
