Comment: very good game, but that was only cos i had this guide: http://jestertrek.com/starfighter/
its basically tells u how to start off and all the strategies of every ship in the game, how to make a load of money and get a load of kills at the beginning... anyway i should give a proper review of this game so here goes:
Time it takes before you can start playing - 10/10
There's no download, its a flash game in a browser... u just register for an account (takes about 15 seconds) and away you go!
Gameplay - 8/10
Gameplay isn't the best out of any game, but its rather satisfying when you blow up all 6 of those ships that had "ambushed" you... Ships typically have Regular Slots, Mine Slots, Utility slots, Proximity Slots, and Large Slots.
Regular Slots are the typical long ranged torpedoes/laser cannons/laser disc weapons that you get in any spaceship game.
Mine Slots are what the name says, Mines, weapons that you leave in space, and either explode when someone walks on them (*click* BOOOOOOM!!!), or after a few seconds (beep.....beep.....beep...beep...beep, beep, beep, beepbeepbeepbeepbeep BOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!).
Utility Slots are utilities, as the name suggests, things that would help you in combat, or out of combat, things that can make you invisible, things that can teleport you out of danger's way, things that protect you etc etc.
Proximity Slots, or Proximity Weapons are weapons that are only effective when the target is right next to you, weapons that make explosions, but VERY close to yourself (obviously they don't harm your ship).
Large weapons are the most powerful weapons in the game, Death Star-like weapons, the disadvantage with these weapons is that while all the other weapons can recharge when you enter another sector, or have infinite ammo to start with, these Large Weapons only have one ammo each, and can only be used once, which means the really expensive ones aren't cost-effective, the expensive ones are just for showing off, but the cheaper ones can be worth it if you have the money to buy them. Killing other ships aren't the only thing you have to do though, you can go on missions, mine from asteroids, and battle other real-life players in the multiplayer sectors.
Things to Do - 9/10
Some people might get bored of this game quite quickly, but that's because they don't know what else they can do. At the start there are only two types of missions, courier, where you ships things from one sector to another to earn money, and assasination, where you are given a target ship in a specific sector and you're ordered to kill that ship. There will probably be more missions to do as you move up the ranks (you get a rank based on how many enemies you have so far killed), and you can mine, but the real fun element is if you have kitted out your ship well and you are dogfighting an enemy, once you beat that enemy, its rather satisfying.
Graphics - 6/10
The graphics aren't really that good, its 2D for a start, and the ships are rather crude, and the weapons are cruder. However, good games aren't good games because they have good graphics, they're good games because they're fun!
Choice/Customizability - 7/10
They're isn't really much choice and customization in the game, there are only about 15-ish ships for each race, half of them you have to unlock (oh yeah, there are two races in this game, Alien and Human, I chose aliens cos they get slightly better weapons), and only about 30-40 weapons for each race, but even that small number of equipment and ships is good enough for this game. For with the correct set-up for your ship, you can still get quite an amount of fun out of this game.
Community - 6/10?
I haven't gone into the multiplayer sectors much, but i haven't seen many players inside them. So im assuming the community isn't very big... or is it?
Replayability - 10/10
After a while of playing this game using the guide, you will start to enjoy it more and more and then you will like coming back to just to blow up some more of them enemy ships, then you might go do crazy things like going deep into enemy territory, going to enemy stations, or just hanging out in the multiplayer sectors all the time.
Overall Rating - 10/10
Who cares about the graphics or amount of ships you get? Frankly, all I care about is whether the game is fun or not. And this one is very fun, so it gets a 10/10 from me!
