Been watching some of the LCS Summer Splits. It's kinda hard to follow because I've never been able to get into League but it's still been fun to watch, definitely enjoying it more than Overwatch. I find Overwatch way too twitchy and flashy. League is a lot easier to watch imo, the camera angle and pace is a lot more enjoyable. I'm not sure if Overwatch can fix its issues but it's also fair to note League has had a lot more time to get it right. Speaking of eSports. A lot of money has been flowing into it lately. Been a few new teams as well as large investments in existing teams from big-name individuals and companies. It's an interesting shift.

Been mostly playing Heroes of the Storm, I know it's a bit MOBA-lite but I really enjoy it. Have had some really fun and close matches and no real issues overall. Finally got my main worked out after his rework and he's back to being pretty solid. Tried some other heroes but haven't really found others that I like to play.

I've also been working on RuneScape summer beach, would like to get another beach title but I'm not sure how possible that is yet. Have made some decent xp gains though. Tokens have picked up a bit but now I'm stuck getting duplicates since the ones left to unlock are few. Beach doesn't seem as popular as previous years but I guess really the game itself isn't either. I wish Jagex would do more with the event, copy and pasting it every year surely doesn't help.

Follow up on the keyboard, it's still great! Unless it spontaneously breaks... knock on wood... I think I made a great pick. It's working out perfect for me, it's lighter than any of the others, the cord comes out in the perfect place. The rgb is pretty cool and didn't cost any extra. The cherry brown switches are fantastic and even quieter than what I had before. Honestly, for basically a blind pick... I can't believe it's this close to perfect.

Torchlight is officially back! Perfect World has announced Torchlight Frontiers headed up by one of the bosses behind Torchlight 1&2. Don't call it Torchlight 3 though, it seems they are taking an online approach to this one... with words like persistent and shared worlds. Don't call it an MMO either. It's very strange and not much has been shown on what it all actually means but it kinda sounds like it'll be online only. It will definitely still be an ARPG though!

Check out the announcement here, which includes a trailer that has no gameplay (rip):

Doom Eternal is coming to Nintendo Switch, being ported by Panic Button! Kinda a surprise because Doom really pushed the system and Eternal is looking to be even more demanding. Though this time they were aware of the Switch during development so maybe that'll help. Assuming it's not a blurry mess (seriously, Wolfenstein 2 gets really bad) this is really great news! Props to Bethesda for giving the system serious support.

In related news, Doom (2016) and Rage joined Xbox Game Pass today. Both are pretty cheap these days so it's not a huge win but can't complain about more games.

Last bit of Bethesda news, Quake Champions went F2P today. No base cost required. ESO also got some updates on a new expansion and updates coming soon, not many details but one of them involves werewolves.

Fnatic vs Splyce and TSM vs 100 Thieves were two insane matches this weekend. Twist and turns all the way through! I'm starting to see the appeal of these matches, it's been a lot of fun following them each weekend. An the action has been great! I can't wait to watch Worlds down the road.

Some non-gaming news, T-Mobile is holding an uncarrier event on August 15th. it's largely believed they will unveil the T-Mobile TV service. I've been following this market for a while now and it's got a decent number of choices already, though it's also stagnated a bit with each service offering their niche. It will be interesting to see if T-Mobile can mix that up a bit.

T-Mobile's thing was a complete bust. It was actually about customer service... which is a strange thing to have an event for but they did. An hey, better customer service isn't a bad thing... assuming it's actually better.

Nvidia has been ramping up the hype machine. New GPUs are definitely going to be announce on Monday. Watch it here:

    Twitch

Gamescom will also be kicking off around the same time, so expect a lot of gaming news or at least new trailers next week. Hopefully some new games too!

The new cards are here and they are pretty expensive! RTX 2070, 2080 and 2080 Ti were announced. No budget cards yet. Prices start at $499. We really don't have a good idea on their actual performance either yet. We do know they have a ton of new tech to make consumer ray tracing a reality and that is really really cool but we don't know how that will perform either. Wait for benchmarks is the word of the day. Even then though, benchmarks might not be enough to get a good picture. Time will tell but one thing is for sure, ray tracing is really cool.

I think my biggest issue (and it's not Nvidia's fault) with RTX is I don't know what AMD can do to answer. I'd really hate to see the gap widen even further because a monopoly is not good for us... I mean look at the price creep already. I'm hoping AMD has something, some plan to maintain relevance in the GPU market... but I'm really not sure they do. It's been such a mess for them.

Maybe they can hit the budget/mid-range market again... though that's probably what Nvidia is saving the 2050/2060 bomb for. Thank goodness AMD has ryzen and hopefully it will be enough to allow them to get back on track, otherwise our only hope is Intel GPU. Yikes.

Finished up Rise of the Tomb Raider a few days ago, did one of the DLCs yesterday too. Overall am pretty happy with the game, I think they'll finally caught up with Uncharted and in some areas surpassed them. That said, I don't know if I'll buy the next one at release. As much as I liked it... spending $60 for a 10-15 hour campaign just seems silly these days. I mean I don't like the online everything trend either but I just don't feel the value anymore in short single player games. Definitely something I'll pick up on sale though.

Few games I got my eye on in the short term is F1 2018, Nascar Heat 3, NBA 2k19 and NBA Live 19. Might end up not getting any of them but they are the front of my wishlist right now. Need more information. Stretching into late Sept. I'm definitely picking up the Xenoblade 2 Torna Expansion. It's gonna be great. One wildcard is Spider-Man. I'm definitely interested and would be top my list but don't have a PS4, I can borrow one to play it but not sure I wanna deal with the hassle, we'll see how the reviews go first.
