On Friday the Anthem VIP demo opens up for I think the weekend. Basically, all you have to do is pre-order somewhere or join Origin Access or EA Access to be eligible to play. They will also be giving out codes and existing players can apparently invite people too or something. I'm not super hyped for this game, I'm not big on online games anyways but add in EA too and it's hard to get excited. That said, BioWare knows they need a hit, they know how important this game is and I think that could be the mindset they need to finally produce something good again. Looking forward to checking it out this weekend.

Rumor has it Switch 7.0.0 is coming soon. Given how underwhelming other updates have been, I can't say I'm expecting anything major happening. Still, an update is an update and maybe it will bring something new.

Spent most of the weekend watching the 24 hours of Daytona. Was a really good race as usual until the rain started. Rain can make it really fun but unfortunately, this time it was a very heavy rain that lasted hours. Effectively killed the last 6 hours or so of racing and ended the race with a 2 hour red flag. Sad but driver safety is more important, they did give it a real go though... just too much water.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is launching tomorrow. Thanks to Microsoft's overly-generous (rip, they will never do it again) holiday promo, picked it up for free. Kinda excited, kinda unsure of what I'm even getting. Hopefully will be fun.

Still waiting on some Animal Crossing news... I mean we are almost done with January, that's like only 11 months left of 2019. Where is my game Nintendo... where?!?! Hopefully we'll get a Direct next month, sad the January rumor didn't pan out.

Played a little bit of Kingdom Hearts 3 today and first impressions are good but a few pain points. One I really really hate save points, I dunno how bad they will be in this game but ugh, this game mechanic needs to die. My bigger issue though is performance. In the Default graphics mode, the game can't keep a stable 60FPS and in the Stable graphics mode it's locked at 30FPS but has a lot of frame pacing issues. How they managed to screw up both modes? I have no idea. Please fix this Square or at least give us a 1080p 60FPS mode.

I'm playing on Xbox One X so hardware should not be an issue. It's not a weird Japan doesn't care about Xbox thing either because PS4 Pro has similar and actually even worse issues with both of these modes. Very strange all around. Not a great start but I have liked the game itself so far. Hopefully Square will patch up the performance pretty quickly.

We also got Switch 7.0.0 and predictably it was a whole lotta nothing on the consumer side. Sounds like it was mostly hacking prevention stuff and then it was still cracked within like half an hour. Nintendo plz.

Digital Foundry released its analyst of Kingdom Hearts 3 and it confirmed what everyone is experiencing. Very frustrating. Console games shouldn't have these kinds of issues, why push settings the consoles clearly can't handle. Why release with a completely broken graphics mode that ironically called "Stable". Why is this becoming more and more common?

Is the game unplayable? No, not at all... unless you are using Stable but, it's just so annoying that buying a new game isn't a guarantee the game will perform well anymore. These are consoles, they are set hardware. It makes no sense. Just sick of this idea that it's ok to charge $60 that is non-returnable for a product the devs know has big issues.

As wise people say these days "don't pre-order". Heck, it almost better to not even buy for the first couple of months. Unless it's an online game where the population could die down, you'll likely end up with most issues fixed and pay a lower price. Much better deal. /rant

A new rumor that seemingly has some real merit is saying Nintendo is planning on releasing a new smaller, cheaper Switch as early as this year. It sounds like this would be kinda like the 2DS from the 3DS era, except the only goal isn't just cheaper but more portable. With Pokemon and Animal Crossing coming, I think this would be a great year to do it. An it makes a lot of sense when considering Nintendo's history.

A second part of the rumor is that Nintendo is planning to beef up the Nintendo Online Service for "enthusiast gamers"... not exactly sure what that is supposed to mean but the rest of the details seem to suggest they'll be expanding beyond NES games. Hopefully, that won't mean just to SNES games.

We are still waiting for that big 2019 Direct. An while I doubt this stuff would be in it, hopefully, it will be here soon so we can get some release dates and new announcements for 2019.
