This time of year is always so boring video game wise, thankfully E3 is right around the corner. Though with new consoles coming next year I'm not sure how much we'll really get game wise this year. Guess I'm mostly looking forward to Nintendo this time around, hopefully, we won't get any delays.

I forgot Turn10 usually disappoints these days... updating the cars is exactly all we got and it came with bugs like the AI not being smart enough to use the right cars. Sigh. They use to be such a great developer, I dunno what happened... feels like everything they do is half done these days. An with the big shots at the studio cruising around in crazy expensive cars... kinda makes me wonder if they are just too comfortable these days.

In other news, Anthem is not meeting EA's expectations... what a shock! EA declared in its earnings call that they remain committed to the game but players and rumors don't seem to agree. Insiders are saying BioWare is shifting to Dragon Age 4 and the Anthem player base is more frustrated than ever.

Nintendo had a Super Mario Maker 2 Direct today, looks like a pretty cool game and a nice follow up to Super Mario Maker. Check out the full Direct here:

Edit - Voucher is one-time purchase only.

Nintendo also announced a new offer for Nintendo Online subscribers. It's a voucher system, you pay $99 for a pack of two and then can redeem them for two games from a list. It's mostly aimed at $60 games so that'd be $10 off each game, which is a solid discount for first-party digital Nintendo games. If this offer continues it will be a guaranteed way to get new release Nintendo games for $50.

Microsoft and Sony have announced a partnership:

Sounds a lot like Sony exploring switching its infrastructure over to Azure. Sony bought Gaikai and OnLive, two of the early leaders in cloud gaming... I could see this deal sharing them patents and technology with Microsoft, in exchange for deeper access to Azure for Sony's services. In terms of gaming, I doubt it means a whole lot but this could be an improvement for PSN and Microsoft's cloud gaming service.

    Full announcement here:

Couple more weeks to e3. Kinda bittersweet for me because we already know they won't say anything about Elder Scrolls 6 or StarField, two of my most anticipated games. PlayStation isn't having a conference and usually, they have cool games to show. An obviously we won't get a PS5 announcement.

We may, however, get a Xbox Two teaser. We should get a look at the current Xbox game projects... though I'm not sure we'll see anything significant release this year beyond what was already announced, like Gears 5. Animal Crossing better make at least an appearance or I will cry. We could possibly see new Switch hardware announced but that seems less likely now. Ubisoft has 3 unannounced AAA titles coming before March 2020, so we should see some good stuff from them.

Gonna be an interesting e3 this year without Sony, EA, Activision. Hopefully, the others will be able to pick up the slack. I don't really wanna see the end of e3 and everyone starts doing their own things.

Picked up Civ 6 on Switch and while the port is pretty solid, I am kinda surprised how much Civ 6 regressed from Civ 5. If my information is good it sounds like the expansions really add that depth back along with new things. It's a shame, I've never been a real fan of the amount of DLC Civ tends to offer anyways but to just regress the game that much... I think they went too far. The game is still pretty fun though, which I guess is the most important thing.

Sonic Team Racing launched today to solid reviews and it seems people are overall enjoying it. It's the first of two karting games coming this year with Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled coming next month. It's nice to see some new kart racing games... tho Crash is a remaster so is it really new? Anyways, hopefully, it'll at least be solid too. Would be great to see some real competition for Mario Kart, it feels like no one else can make a "great" kart racing game.

A new rumor says FormSoftware (Dark Souls) will be partnering with George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones) for a new open world game that will be announced at the Microsoft E3 conference. In a blog post a few days ago while talking about what he is doing now, George mentioned "consulting on a video game out of Japan". This would seem to give this rumor a lot more credibility but we'll have to wait and see. Beyond being open world, the game is said to have been in development for 3 years now and will be published by Bandi Namco.

The announcement no one seen coming, DC Universe Online is coming to Switch this summer. It will be free-to-play like all other platforms, it will launch as a fresh server and cross-play is being looked into. No character transfers, everyone will have to start from scratch. Here's the trailer:

As someone who played DCUO quite a bit back in the day, I think this is a good MMO for Switch. The game is setup nicely for consoles and it's easy to play in spurts. That said, it is a really old MMO at this point and I have no idea about the state of the game these days.

A Pokemon Press Conference has been scheduled for tomorrow at 6pm PDT. Don't get too excited though because a Nintendo Pokemon Direct has also been scheduled for June, 5th at 9am Eastern. What exactly the press conference will bring is unknown but The Pokemon Company has already basically said the Sword/Shield news will be at the Nintendo Direct.

A few new retail listing overseas again suggest Witcher 3 could be coming to Nintendo Switch. They had a release date in September so if it's legit we should hear something at E3. Also, Xbox released it's E3 schedule and this years press conference is scheduled to be it's longest yet. Should be an interesting event with new games and services... an maybe a peak at the next Xbox.
