It's not much so far after that. I'll add more tonight, since I know someone is using it :D

(Trade Depot and Masons workshop and Carpenters workshop + how do cut down trees and gather wild plants)

    Like it so far?
(both the guide and the game)

I hate ramps. Why did I have to pick a FLAT EMBARK! It is so much easier to build a secure depot in the face of a mountain.

I don't quite get what you mean by that, but, I get the gist that you're annoyed about where you picked to embark.

The Embark is flat...no mountains or anythiing. Although it does have sand, which means you can create glass.

Game Maker is cool. If you wanna learn basic programing, try Scratch....it's where I first started. (Google).

I am gonna do another chapter or two this weekend. Sorry for the delay. Trying to find a better screenshot program today.

I just use the PrintScreen button :D It serves my purposes.

Then I have to pause the game, open up editor, paste, save, add text to image, upload image, and copy and paste to forum.

Now I can have it do all that at once with greenshot. Yay.

Yeah, that's the main disadvantage with PrintScreen. I don't often have to take multiple screenshots in a row though.

EDIT: Oh wow, that is fast.

And also, Scratch seems made to teach programming to beginners, so I may take a look at that later. But, for now, Game Maker has enough programming for me. And I get to make a game!

Scratch was what I first used. It is good for beginners, but there is the possibility of advanced stuff, without needing to learn a complex syntax.

Alice is also a good program..

Dwarf Fortress allows you to create complex gates that open when certain things happen...I won't go into that too much though. I'm gonna work on the fort more tonight!

Alright, let's move on. In the last chapter,we built a farm. Yet our dwarves will still starve. Select the farm with "q"uery. In this menu, pressing a, b, c, or d will pick the seasons, as shown. Select "Plump Helmets" for every season. If all is well, your dwarves will start farming!

    Now to begin this chapter:
    _________________________________________________________

Great work building a farm...now for the basic building procedures of DF! First we need to dig down into the rock. Right now we've only touched soil!

To do this, we will need some stairs. To build stairs, you must do the same as digging, only select "j" for down stairs.

Alright, these stairs won't work...what will the dwarves go down into? We are going to have to build some up stairs directly below the down stairs. Use the "u" key to designate up stairs.

Whoa, some rock! Rock is used for all sorts of things, like buildings and such. Why don't we build a workshop with this stone?
Build a hallway, and a room. Then press "b" for build, and then scroll to workshops, and press enter. Find "Mason's Workshop", and press enter again. When asked for a material, pick any kind of rock, just not the wood. A masondwarf will come and build the building, looking like this:

Why don't we build a Trade Depot next? Build a large hallway (3 tiles), nd a large room. Then select Trade Depot from the menu. If you "q" this object, you will see:

NEEDS ARCHITECTURE? That's alright, we will just have to tell one of our dwarves to be an architect. What about that hunter? Press "u" and find the hunter on the list. Then press "c" to zoom to him. Press "p" for preferences, and then "l" for labors. You can then use this menu to find Architecture, and then press enter to enable it. Now we can go work with our mason some more.

Not done yet...I'll work more tomorrow.
