If you have low FPS at Minecraft i recomend downloading Optifine,it give you much more options!And zoom aswell,check it
some of the best mods i've seen are: the twilight forest, thaumcraft, dimension doors, mystcraft. (there may be more) i played feed the beast modpack, its nice, but not my thing. after that i played blood and bones, its very fun and EXTREMELY HARD, i cannot express how hard it can be. but after you figure out some things, it kinda gets boring when you realize it does not have to be THAT hard. it disables normal minecraft recipes and forces you to use tinker's construct, which is kinda fun, add some unexplainable joy in making something simple as a pickaxe.

Very cool minecraft mod is Mo' Creatures. Try it. You can spawn the sea of animals like flys,turkeys,werewolves,raccoons,parrots ... Its fun...
