I once accepted this guy on Facebook I had heard the name and we had some mutual friends but I didn't really know him. Then soon after I accepted him he started doing weird shit like posting "Jesse is in a relationship with Jesse's right hand"... if you get that reference. And then like a week later he posted on my wall (keep in mind I've never spoken to the guy in my life) "I'm watching you". This guy also became the first and only person I have ever blocked on Facebook.

 

Yeah I know I've used Ubuntu forums and they're helpful and all but when I ask to please explain things in plain English a lot of them don't really get it. Then I feel even more stupid asking them to explain their idiot's definition for an even bigger idiot. And it's not really a pressing matter because I can still code Python on my desktop. I'll eventually post again on Ubuntu forums if it's actually a pressing matter.

And man I thought I liked Vista at first but after 4 years of dealing with it I am SO glad to be done.

yea good at business. they scam people for a cruddy quality product....(seriously ive had my mp4 for 2 years now and my friends' ipods break in a few months. It is not just one....its just sad)

its basically like this....nothing makes apple/mac special over another product that serves the same purpose. It just sells for higher for no reason. An itouch only costs less than 50 dollars in materials to produce, also including when they ship the product from china to america. Also selling to the consumer (the wholesaler [Walmart, target, etc] who buys it from the company) for a little bit cheaper but not much. Then the wholesalers sell to the real consumers (people) and its probably added like $15 a unit I would assume.

I'm not saying they make a good quality product. I'm saying their promotional tactics to get people to go all "I NEEEEED iPod" are amazing. They have people totally convinced that their mediocre, average product is the best thing on the market. That's kind of awe inspiring when you think about it.

 

yea......I wish (Not being in the shoes of the current CEO or w/e) but how the heck do you get a series of items to be like that o.0 it is very weird. A phenomenon if you will.

Honestly I have no idea, which is part of my admiration for Apple. I don't have any real interest in owning their products. But I want to know how they got society so convinced that by buying Apple they are buying the top of the line.

I have used Linux near exclusively for years now, if you have any questions feel free to shoot a PM, I'm all for spreading the joy of Linux and making it as easy to use as possible.

I like Linux for a few main reasons. First, it's free (in both senses of the word). Windows is expensive, and you can't really modify it at all past what they want you to. Linux is open source!

Second, it is much easier to do...just about everything in Linux, if you know what you are doing. I can install pretty much any even semi-popular programs by typing a few words in my always open terminal. ("sudo apt-get install [package]"). In Windows, you must open a browser, google, find an .exe, download, click, run through install..very unintuitive!).

Not that Linux can't be made basic, you can get plenty of excellent file management programs and such, Ubuntu comes with some good basic programs. But if you are an advanced user, Linux is most definitely much better.

There are some other reasons too, but those are the main ones. The ONLY reason I would use Windows is if there was a Windows program that I really needed that I cannot get to run correctly in Linux (using 'wine'). Otherwise, Linux all the way!

 

There's my question. I've got a tar.gz file which I understand to be the Linux equivalent to a .zip or .rar.

All of the Linux tuts say to use that sudo apt-get command... then what do I do? Here's the file I'm trying to install-
