    how to play support guide

    Laning Phase

At the start of the game there is this thing called the laning phase. Those are the first few minutes of the game where two or one player go to a lane (the pre-scripted AI path of minions) to gain experience and gold. However, you do not stay in lane forever.

The end of the laning phase is usually signified by the destruction of the outer turrets on your or the enemy's side. Staying in lane after a turret is destroyed is dangerous because you either become more vulnerable to ganks or unable to make trades with your lane opponent due to lack of turret coverage. Winning your lane is considered having destroyed the enemies' turret first, however, your lane can be considered won if your KDA is positive and your creep score (the ADC’s in this case) matches or surpasses your opponents, even if you have lost your turret first.

    Pre-Level 6

Pre-Level 6 is an interesting point in the game for Supports. During this point in the game Supports can either be what leads the team to victory or lose them the game. Getting kills for their ADC by peeling allows for kills to be gained, money to spend and items to buy. These early kills set your ADC ahead, making for a shorter laning phase, more formidable damage and a stronger team. However, this point in the game can also go the other way. A poor Support will engage without their ADC and end up feeding the enemy carry. At this point if toxicity between players comes into play, the laning phase becomes harder as the team fights each other instead of their opponents.

    Some tips for pre-level 6:

-Keep river and bush awarded to try to avoid ganks.
-Try to make trades that are in your favor, where you end up with more HP than your opponent in the end.
-Protect your carry! They are invaluable to the game and you want them fed.
-Champions with stuns and snares make it easier for engages and are often scary to the enemy. Get presence in the lane but don’t over-extend. You don’t want to die now, do you?

    Post-Level 6

When champions reach level six the game becomes a bit more scary. Any champion’s ultimate will make them a formidable opponent as most ADC’s have an execute ultimate that will either be a ranged initiate or do a lot of damage.
As a support, you usually have an ultimate that is hard Crowd Control such as Leona’s Solar Flare and Zyra’s Stranglethorns. The crowd control on these ultimates allows for initiation for a team fight or catching someone out and focusing down a single target. Usually a team will wait for someone to initiate, typically the support, due to the commonality of stuns and snares on Supports.

    Tips

A tip that I can give to a Support is to never get ahead of yourself even if you ARE ahead. Getting ahead of yourself could lead to unfavorable situations such as 1 v 2’s or 1 v 3’s if you get ganked. As a Support, most of the time you’re there for utility, not damage.

So what does this mean? Ward. I can’t stress enough how important it is to ward. Warding gives vision and vision allows the prevention of ganks and enables ganks from your own jungler. Also avoid taking CS (creep score) without Relic Shield. Relic Shield CS is shared CS, otherwise it’s just selfish. Though that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t farm if given the chance, especially with any form of Amulet Coin, just being around brings in gold.

More gold = More Items = Advantage.

If you get a kill, push your lane. You’re in a 2 v 1 situation and you pushing gives the team map pressure.
