    The Necessity of the Support

    We Need a Support?
In the current Meta of League of Legends there are 2 really popular ways to play the champion you chose, those being built very tanky and little to no damage or high amounts of damage and very little tankiness with a few variations like the off-tank or the bruiser which can build a bit of tankiness and a bit of damage as well. But one role really doesn't fit in with this sort of code; the support.

With a distinct few exceptions the support role usually houses champions that are fairly squishy and have quite a bit less damage than their other squishy counterparts, so many thoughts are to get rid of the support. But I'm here to explain why the support is still needed where a higher damage champion would not be as great.

    Crowd Control

One major advantage to having supports instead of heavy damage champs is that supports usually bring tons of CC. Most high damage champions like AD carries don't bring much or reliable CC. An example of this is Vayne's E, Condemn. With this it knocks the target away, and if they hit a wall or turret, they're stunned. This can be unreliable due to the late game and in team fights that are usually in the middle of mid lane.

A key aspect of a successful support champion is that they bring lot of CC. For example Nami's Q and R are hard CC while someone who gets hit by auto attacks with Nami's E as well as when they come down from Nami's R, this slow is counted as soft CC. Another great example of supports bringing CC is Leona, with 3/4 of her abilities causing someone to be stunned or heavily slowed. Having someone with this much CC helps free up the jungler to pick a champion who brings more damage or tankiness the team may need.

    Wards ?

I do not agree with the fact that it is solely the support's job to ward but I understand where some players are coming from, so in this section I am addressing this claim. Many people may say this due to the other champions trying to save up for a Blasting Wand in the midlane or a B.F. Sword for the AD champions. Another thought behind this is that a main support item is the Sightstone and eventually upgraded Ruby Sightstone, which basically gives free wards.

A common thought is "Hey we need a ward on Baron." The support usually puts down a ward from their Sightstone. This is now not only the support's job but the whole team's, yes the support is usually the only one with a Sightstone so they should be warding the most but warding is a team effort. So to wrap this section up I say the warding in the long run comes down to the support but especially with the new warding trinket it is everyone's job.

So why do we need a support then if it's everyone's job and we all have the trinket ward? It is especially useful if you are behind a bit and need vision on certain bigger objectives like dragon or Baron. The trinket ward at max level lasts only 120 seconds while a normal ward last 3 minutes. That's 60 seconds of darkness where the other team can sneak a Dragon or a Baron without you knowing. Warding is not strictly the support's job but supports bring the most to the table when it comes to warding.

    Heals/Shields

Though champions such as Rumble and Evelynn have shields, many people with these shields for their abilities can't give them to other champions whereas many supports can. A few examples of these champions are Thresh, Janna and Lulu just to name a few. We all know how angry you can get when dueling someone and you almost have them and then they surprise you with barrier and you lose the fight. The support's shields are always helpful and provide an edge in fights that you may lose otherwise.

Another thing the supports can do and other champions usually can't is heal teammates. While champs like Aatrox have personal sustain and many champs buy lifesteal, supports such as Nami and Soraka can heal their teammates which helps the Marksman on your team stay in lane and grab some extra CS over the opponent Marksman. The heals also help when another teammate is close to death and you can save their life.

    Conclusion

To conclude supports need to be kept in the current meta due to vision and warding, healing and shields and bringing much need CC and allowing the Jungler or Midlaner to be tankier or bring more damage and not have to be so CC heavy.

    Soraka support

In my oppinion, that's one hell of a support and champion. That heals are so annoying that i think in teamfights the first one who needs to be deleted is her -.- How do you fight Soraka?

First task of support is making his carry strong. That's by my opinion the only task the support has. It's his mission, but there is a lot of strategies how you can manage that to happen:
    1. tank for your carry (take thresh, leona, blitz, alli)
    2. peel for your carry (nami, alli)
    3. prepare fight for your carry (ap supports)
    4. heal your carry (sona, soraka)

In every one of this strategies comes the map awarness. Adc has one job: be farmed up, so he is focused on minions a lot, cuz creeps are important for everyone, but adc depends of them the most, because adc is late game role, the faster you get your adc to the late game, the more chances for victory you have. While he farms, trying not to lose single minions, he is often tunel visioning (not having map awareness) so support's task is to warn him of problems.
