The rise of Linux as a gaming platform seems to gather momentum every week with new games, software and hardware being confirmed to use the operating system at a growing rate. Doubtless the growth of the penguin friendly OS is in part down to the Steam Beta client for Linux, but it is great to see that Euro Truck Simulator 2 will soon be available on Linux, initially in beta form.

I haven’t used Linux at all yet, but the growing number of games that are being released on it might make me think twice about not checking it out. I wouldn’t be surprised if 2013 is the year that Linux breaks into the mainstream. Meanwhile, I just wonder how long we have to wait for ETS 2 to get released on Steam, hopefully it won’t be much longer.

Wii U software sales are "struggling a bit" in the US, according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz.

Reacting to last night's release of NPD sales data for the US market in December, Cowen said in a research note: "Software sales for the Wii U remained well behind launch levels for the original Wii and GameCube in December.
"Totals for the November-December period were -43% lower than software sales for the Wii and -50% lower than those for the GameCube."

The relatively low Wii U software sales appear to have been masked somewhat by news of the revenue generated by the platform since launch.

North American Wii U unit sales during the console's first full month failed to match those set by the Wii in December 2006, though the new system has generated more revenue in the same time frame.

Taking Wii U's relatively low software sales into account, it appears that the system's higher launch price ($300 for Basic model/$350 for Premium, compared to Wii's $250) was the main reason the new console's launch revenue exceeding its predecessor.

In the UK, no exclusive Wii U game has entered into the top 40 all format chart for the past three weeks.

Following last night's announcement of the Wii U sales results, Nintendo's stock climbed 5.6 percent in Osaka trading to close at 9,070 yen, its biggest gain since September 18.

    Commanders,

We recently announced a Better Safe Than Sorry contest – a competition in which we invited you to collect as many medals as you could in one battle – the catch being that you could only enter if you had protected your account by linking it to your mobile phone.

The contest is now over. Fifty winners were possible and they are listed below. Each winner wins 2000 gold!

    Congratulations to them all.

    Commanders!

The introduction of new physics in Update 8.0 made combat across the maps very intense, and brought a variety of gameplay previously unknown in World of Tanks. As a result, collisions and accidents with your metal machines are ... much more spectacular!

Thus, we have prepared this fun contest for you to show off the amount of destruction you can create at the controls of your tanks with your friends and clan members in training battles. The sky is the limit – use any map, climb the tallest hills and mountains, run at top speed, prepare mid-air collisions and gunfire! Use your imagination, and remember that the more friends you bring, the more boom you’ll have!

Capture the moment and enter the contest! There are separate categories for YouTube and screenshot submissions, and you could win a ton of gold!

    Prizes!

    Video Category:
1st place: 2000 for each participant (6000 for the Author)
2nd place: 1500 for each participant (4500 for the Author)
3rd place: 1000 for each participant (3000 for the Author)
4th place: 750 for each participant (2250 for the Author)
5th place: 500 for each participant (1500 for the Author)

4th place: 200 for each participant (600 for the Author)
5th place: 150 for each participant (450 for the Author)

    Rules

    For image category:
The image must be at least 1280x720 pixels and be in png or jpeg format. The image must be from World of Tanks in-game.
Mods and skins are not allowed.
The image can consist of a few screenshots put together to visually narrate the events before the final big boom. It can also be one epic screenshot. It can have added visual effects or text that you can make with an image editing program. This basically means you can go nuts, but the main feature has to be the in-game screenshot from the training room showing you and your friends in a dramatic in-game physics display with as much destruction as possible. Be creative and use the best camera angles to capture the moment!
Send your image submissions to [email protected] before January 28th with this text in the subject of the email: [Destruction Derby][Image]. This is really important. If it’s not written like this it will be lost.
In the email, include the in-game names of your friends (7 minimum, 14 maximum) that are clearly visible in the image and let us know who put the image together, as that person will get more gold.
By entering the contest, you agree that your image could be published and used by Wargaming.net without any compensation.
By entering the contest, you agree to not submit copyright materials or materials that have been previously published on the internet.
By entering the contest, you agree that you are the author of the content/material that you submit.
The contest starts on the 15th January 2013 and finishes on the 28th January 2013 at 19:00 CET (18:00 GMT).
The goal of the contest is to create an image of tank destruction with other players in an epic, dramatic Destruction Derby kind of way.

    For YouTube category:
Your video must be at least 720p HD in quality.
The video must be from World of Tanks in-game of you and your friends within the training room.
Mods and skins are not allowed.
The only music you can use is in-game music or classical music that was composed more than 100 years ago (Please be aware that we will take into consideration any issues where the composers of the music had any questionable affiliations or the content of the music is found as going against our EULA or ToS. Should we have any reservations it could lead to the disqualification of the entry). You can cut up the music for added dramatic effect. Include the list of the songs used and composer’s name of any classical music in the YouTube description.
You may use video editing programs to cut up your video and edit in text or effects. Please remember that the main feature must be the in-game footage showing you and your friends in a dramatic in-game physics display with as much destruction as possible. Be creative and use the best camera angles to capture the moment!
    Upload your video to YouTube.
Send your YouTube submissions to [email protected] before January 28th with this text in the subject of the email: [Destruction Derby][YouTube]. This is really important. If it’s not written like this it will be lost.
In the email include the link to your YouTube video. (The video can be unlisted if you don’t want it to be public).
Also in the email, include the in-game name of your friends (7 minimum, 14 maximum) that are clearly visible in the video and let us know who put the video together, as that person will get more gold.
By entering the contest, you agree to not submit copyright materials or materials that have been previously published on the internet.
By entering the contest, you agree that you are the author of the content/material that you submit.
By entering the contest you agree that your YouTube could be published and used by Wargaming.net without any compensation.
The contest starts on the 15th January 2013 and finishes on the 28th January 2013 at 19:00 CET (18:00 GMT).
The goal of the contest is to create a video of tank destruction with other players in an epic, dramatic Destruction Derby kind of way.

    Winner Selection:

Winners will be chosen in a vote of the EU community team and will be determined by how many individual votes they accumulate after all the community team members have voted.

Each EU staff member will be able to cast 10 votes, but a contest entry can only be given one vote per EU staff member. This means that each EU staff member will be able to cast 5 individual votes for the image category out of the submissions gathered, and another 5 individual votes for the YouTube category out of the submissions gathered. Final placement and results will be determined by the entries that receive the largest number of votes from the EU community staff. In the event of a draw in the original voting, a tie-breaker vote will be held.

Good luck tank commanders! May the most destructive display of in-game physics win!

    -Your EU Community Team
