10 Things you have to know in ArcheAge: A review and guide

I made a gaming article for all you curious readers! I made some tips and tricks for the new game, Archeage.This game was released 2 weeks ago and is fairly new in Korea. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to try the open beta of the thanks to a Korean friend. She provided me with an access code which allowed me to experience this game that I believe will be a hit in the coming months. Mind you, so far the only way I could play was because of some help with the language. As a foreigner, I needed the help of a translator to give me an idea of what I had to do and what the interface meant.

As a beginner in Archeage, starting out in this strange new world can be a difficult and taxing experience. So here, let me share advice on how to build a better character, increase your monetary gain, and maximize the fun you can get out of this unique experience.

1. Know what you want to do in Archeage
There are many ways to enjoy ArcheAge! You can do the usual routine of hunting monsters, the exciting path of hunting of other players, or even taking it easy by focusing on building your own house and garden. Not content with just fixing your own home? Then be a lord of a castle commanding over numerous homesteads and protect your local populace. Know what type of character you want to be and you will be able to fully enjoy the endless possibilities of this game. As of the writing of this article, I have not yet tested the PvP and house building options so I might get back to that soon!

2. Selecting your capability considering the ‘linked effect’
In order to come up with your final job, you have to pick 3 out of the 10 possible capabilities. Upon character creation, you get to choose 1 with an additional at levels 5 and 10. I suggest picking a combat based capability first such as fight, wild nature, magic, or mission. Other abilities like love, witchcraft, and will are more of accessory traits and can be picked up later.
Don’t worry if you made a mistake with the capability you picked. You can talk to an NPC in the village and pay a specific amount to have it changed. It’s better to have it changed as soon as possible since your capabilities level up too! It would be an annoyance to start again from level 1 if you already have a level 10 ability. Also, remember that your capabilities are linked and can affect each other. For instance, Mission works well with Fight or Wild nature while Magic is harmonious with Death or Witchcraft. Find your own mix and see what works for you.

3. Select equipment regardless of your job
Unlike the conventional role playing games that impose strict restrictions on armor classes, ArcheAge doesn’t follow that format. Warriors need not wear strong metal plated armor and wizards need not keep using robes. Dress yourself according to the function you wish to fulfill. For example, I use a Wizard class while wearing somewhat heavy armor to minimize the damage from the monsters I hunt. This can also go the other way with me choosing leather to increase magic resistance. This makes the game a better simulation because I believe that mages do not ALWAYS use light armor. It’s my own preference and that is something that you can apply too when you play this game!

Mentally and emotianally guys will always be late to develop compaired to women. It doesn't have to be down to age. It is just how we are. Especially military guys have a known tendency to keep to themselves, to be independent, and they're usually not that emotionally open and talkative about things. I'm assuming he has that kind of job, because you mentioned you were 7,000 miles apart. I hate to stereotype, but in other words they're usually more of masculine tough man and not known for showing empathy and not particularly known for being that verbally inclined.

It is not wrong to be impatient at your age. We all know that women have a certain age span when they can have children. You should know that statistics show that above age 30, women have a 3% chance of not being able to get pregnant and bear children. That is a persistent chance, meaning that there isn't anything that modern healthcare and doctors can do about it. Those odds of not being able to get children increase further beyond 35 years old. Above 35 you also have an increased chance of complications during pregnancy and child delivery and the baby has an increased odds of congenital defects and genetic disorders. That is why in the Netherlands doctors recommend a chorion villous biopsy for all pregnant women who are at least 35 years old and pregnant. It is funded by default by all healthcare insurers in the Netherlands. Health insurance is btw mandatory in the Netherlands and with good reasons, because it avoids an economic behaviour called free-rider behaviour. Chorion villous biopsy does create a slight increased chance of miscarriage, the theoretical odds are less than 1 in a 10,000, or less than 0.1 promille. This is why chorion villous biopsy is recommended in all cases because those odds by far outweigh any other health complications for the mother and child if the mother didn't have the knowledge of any possible defects and diseases. Chorion villous biopsy has improved enormously over the years, mostly due to improved screening of hereditary defects. It is particularly French studies that have increased scientific knowledge of the human genome that helps here.

Now the reason why older women have an increased chance of bearing children with hereditary defects, is because women don't make sperm like men do. Ova are made as little girl foetuses grow in the womb and usually one ovum becomes fertile during ovulation, which begins for the first time during puberty. Men however continually prooduce new sperm beginning at the onset of puberty. As such the male genetic material in sperm cells is fresh, where as female genetic material in Ova ages considerably. As the ova age, these are more prone to have received damage of the genetic material, such as mutations and it is the genetic mutations that cause hereditary disorders.

Known environmental factors that cause damage to genetic material, are such things as: UltraViolet light a.k.a. UV light, radio-active radiation, heavy metals, including minerals like mercury, lead, thallium and cadmium, retro-viruses, certain auto-immune diseases, and some poisonous chemicals. A word of note to any smokers who may read this, cigarettes contain large quantaties of lead and cadmium and are hence particularly damaging to your reproductive health. Some studies also show that minerals like nickel and zinc also may cause harm, though this is less certain. It is known for instance that female bank clerks and cashiers have an increased risk of miscarriage and an increased odds of their offspring being born with certain birth defects and it is theorised that the handling of coins and bank notes may have something to do with that. That is why some Dutch and German banks have a policy where women bank clerks and cashiers should wear gloves when handling large volumes of money on a daily basis. Though due to the frequent use of debit cards nowadays such policies have somewhat laxed. Another group of women who are more at risk of damage to their reproductive health are nurses. That is because they handle medicines, some of which contain the aforementioned dangerous chemicals. It is particularly certain psychoactive drugs, like sedatives and hypnotics that can cause enormous harm, but also cytotoxins used in drugs for chemotherapies and cancer treatment.

Because you can't possibly completely avoid exposure to such things, you're a bound to get damage to the ova eventually. That is why women have evolved to get a menopause when they reach a certain age. The average age nowadays is estimated to be around 51 years old in the western world and an average age of 48 years old for smokers. It is nature's way of saying your ova are too old and you shouldn't use them no more. Well, nature isn't perfect as you can notice there is a difference of 16 years between the age of 35 and 51.

Hence to make a long story short, it is completely natural to be impatient. Men however have all the patience in the world. Men can afford to, because men make sperm.

Even so you also have a perfectly good reason to be anxious. Though you can't wait too long, you also shouldn't rush things either. Like have you considered whether you are still compatible when he comes back from his tour of duty. Men can change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. If he is serving in particularly severe tour of duty, he has an odds of about 10% to return with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

You should ask yourself this, what potential downsides can you handle in your relationship and what can't you handle? Now include the rearing of a child in that equation. Can you handle it if he returns with PTSD, or is maimed, or god forbid what if he doesn't return at all? If you got a good support network, if you can handle some disapointment along the voyage and most important if you like the guy, then I think you know the answer is yes and you should go for it. While men can afford to be patient, they can be notoriously impatient when their significant other wants to. If you know what I mean.

Perhaps I can give you this word of advice though. If he ain't in the mood, you should know that job related stress is a real killer when it comes to performing the matrimonial deed. Job related stress also causes men to turn in on themselves and become more emotionally repressive. As they get older and become more intwine with their job and gain more privileges at work, the job related stress will decrease. So there is a good chance that he may improve in that aspect and become more emotionally mature. He might eventually surprise you in a positive way and show more maturity. You should also consider today's economy. He's probably happy to have a steady job, and as such he wants to keep it, regardless of any stress that comes with the job.

 

I've never been a fan of browser games. Runescape was a game that I really liked, but I don't really like it anymore. But currently, my favorite is probably Pockie Pirates and Ogre Wars of course
