The update is now over and the download of the new content will begin when you launch the game. You can also download it manually via the Download section.
Version 9.8 is ready for deployment. This update will bring some interesting content, such as Dynamic Platoons, special badges awarded in real time during battle, and the Domination event. Below you will find a handy summary of the additions and changes:



Dynamic Platoons
Starting with this update, you will be able to form platoons with your team mates while in battle. This means no more waiting for a battle ending to go back to the Garage in order to create a combat unit – assemble your formation on the spot!


Special Event: Domination
To celebrate the release of the patch, we will be organizing a special event in which everyone will be able to participate! Roll out in 3 special event vehicles and battle it out in the fight for domination – respawning, repairs and resupplies in battle are enabled!


HD/SD client split
Enjoy the possibility of choosing the proper client to fit your computer's specs and save some disk space!


Battle Performance Badges
Enjoy a special set of badges which will be granted in real time during the course of the battle. Gain immediate battle performance feedback and use it to better assess your input!


Battles for Strongholds expanded to include Tier VIII
Version 9.8 will introduce more variety to battles for strongholds, as now the mid-level battles will feature teams of Tier VIII vehicles.

Map changes
Some maps have been amended in order to balance gameplay, primarily Karelia, Sand River, Westfield and Siegfried Line.


For a complete list of changes and additions please refer to the Updates section on the website.

You will be able to experiment with all of this new content once the new update is implemented in the game. In order to make the changes, the game server will be undergoing maintenance on 27 May from 05:00 to 11:30 CEST (UTC+2).


IMPORTANT: Players with a Premium Account active during the maintenance will be compensated.

From Update 9.8, you will be able to choose between two types of game client: Standard (SD) Client and HD Client (beta). This is a feature that will be available during the public test.

Standard (SD) Client— a new version of the World of Tanks game client. It requires less hard drive space because it does not contain maximum resolution textures for vehicle models. Standard (SD) version of the client takes less time to update and allows you to into the game more quickly.

HD Client (beta)—this World of Tanks game client that contains textures for game objects in all resolutions, including maximum-quality resolution. The game content is fully identical to that in the Standard (SD) Client.

Please note – the HD version of the game client requires a 64-bit operating system.
Game content in both versions of the client is identical. For example, vehicles remodeled in high quality will be available both in Standard (SD) Client and HD Client (beta). The differences between the clients are based on texture detail and required disk space.

The HD client is the recommended way to experience the game but this new choice allows you greater flexibility when updating the game. It also gives new players the chance to sample World of Tanks without the need for a lengthy download and installation.

Selecting the Client Type During Installation
At the current time supporting screenshots can only be provided in English.

When installing the test version of Update 9.8, you will be prompted to select a game client to install.

Selection of the game client type is not permanent and can be changed at any time. To change the game client type, run the game launcher and select the desired version of the client.

Once you confirm your choice, the launcher will either start downloading the required files (when switching from Standard (SD) Client to HD Client) or change the game client to the SD-version (when switching from HD Client to Standard (SD) Client) without downloading any additional files. In the latter case, the game client size will decrease.

FAQ

Will the two versions of the client require separate game modifications?

This change should not affect third-party game modifications. At the same time, it should be reminded that we do not guarantee the smooth operation of a modified game client.

Will the game client type have to be selected every time I update?

The launcher will download updates for the currently installed game client type. But you will be able to change the client type after installation.

How much will the size of the installed game client decrease, if the Standard (SD) Client is selected?

The installed game client will drop in size by approximately 6 GB. The downloaded client version will decrease by 3 GB.

Why is there “beta†in the name of HD Client?

Currently HD Client is called beta as HD-content of the game is still under the process of development and is constantly increasing.
