Wargaming.net, the award-winning publisher and developer, is pleased to announce that they have sponsored the creation of an education centre in Europe’s biggest tank museum based in the Bovington, England, and Wargaming CEO Victor Kislyi will unveil a special plaque at this year’s Tankfest, June 29th & 30th, where Wargaming will be attending for the 3rd year running with its award winning title World of Tanks.

The grant of £80,000 allowed for a previously unused room in The Tank Museum to be transformed into a contemporary, state-of-the-art classroom; with a modern AV system, a suite of 20 high spec computers and seating for up to 60 students. The Tank Museum's Education service provides an important proactive link with schools and teachers across the UK and beyond.

“World of Tanks has generated huge interest in the history of armored warfare amongst young people online,†said Victor Kislyi Wargaming CEO. “And with this room we can take this enthusiasm into the classroom to give a new generation of children a better appreciation of their national heritage.â€

“I am delighted that Wargaming.net are supporting The Tank Museum by funding our new Education Center." said Richard Smith Director the Tank Museum. " This will be the first time that The Tank Museum has had a dedicated teaching space and will make a huge impact on the 7,000 school children who use our facilities each year. The Wargaming.net Education Center is such a first class facility, that it will make The Tank Museum’s Education Service much more attractive to schools in the region and further afield. We estimate that we will double the number of school visits within the next five years.â€

With accolades that include the respected Sandford Award for Heritage Education, the service is led by professional teaching staff and places students in direct contact with source material whilst providing a specialist service to support teachers.

The museum at the moment hosts 7,000 school children each year, helping them learn about the impact of war on the society in which they live. Popular schools workshops include Trench Warfare and the Birth of The Tank and The Home Front 1939 – 1945.

The Wargaming.net Education Centre will be the main hub of activity for these groups as part of their visit, providing a modern and flexible learning space in which they can hear presentations, handle objects and understand the role of armored vehicles and the soldiers who served in them.

In addition, the facility will be used as part of the on-going adult education work that The Tank Museum carries out, with regular programming of lectures and talks. In 2013 this will include a programming of teacher-training as Britain prepares to commemorate the outbreak of the First World War and the Centenary of the invention of the tank.

With the centenary of World War One on the horizon, the touchscreen PC’s in the Wargaming.net Education Center will also provide a facility for children and families to further research members of their own family who served in the Great War.
