    I guess I can start...


    I believe MMORPGs are the current MMO category of choice. While over the past few years MOBAs have become increasingly popular due to the competitive nature and tournaments I have several doubts that they are the current MMO category of choice. The first reason being there are only a few MOBAs that have a large amount of players (LoL, HoN, and Dota 2), and handful of other MOBAs in general. Where as there are large amount of MMORPGs that have a quite a big player base, as well as dominate the MMO category overall. The second reason being MMORPGs have been innovative over the years to bring in new players and keep the old ones. While MOBAs haven't been really innovative compared to MMORPGs. I mean out of the handful of MOBAs that are released, very few differ, I only know of four which are Awesomenauts, SMITE, SMNC and Smashmuck Champions. While MMORPGs have been constantly innovating over the years with games like Guilds Wars 2, Star Wars the Old Republic, The Secret World, Defiance and Neverwinter to name a few. The third reason is the stats say it all. While Riot Games claims that League of Legends averages over 12 million players worldwide and with World of Warcaft only having over 8 million subscribers as of March 2013 League of Legends makes it seem that MOBAs have more popularity. But without a doubt RuneScape puts League of Legends to shame with over 200 million accounts created making MMORPGs the current MMO category of choice.
